Playoffs Begin Tuesday

It's playoff time for some area teams.  Here's the latest information available about the schedule:

TENNIS

Lincoln Charter puts it undefeated 10-0 record on the line against another undefeated tennis team, Gray Stone Day from Misenheimer (16-0) in a 4 PM match Tuesday (May 7th)in the 1A playoffs. The match will be at the Stanly County school.

After a close win over Shelby (5-4) in the first round of the playoffs, the East Lincoln tennis team (11-3) will host Fred T. Foard (8-5) at 4 PM Tuesday in the 2A playoffs.

BASEBALL

North Lincoln, seeded #2 in the west region, will host Central Academy from Monroe in the opening round of the NCHSAA 2A Baseball Playoffs. That game will be played at 7 PM Tuesday. West Lincoln, seeded at #13 in the west, will host South Point (the #20 seed) in their first round NCHSAA 2A Baseball Playoffs Tuesday evening. East Lincoln, seeded #29, will travel to Franklin for its opening round game. Bandys, seeded #19, will play at Hibriten Tuesday evening. Maiden, seeded #26, will travel to East Bend, NC, to play Forbush. The winning teams from each of those games will meet Friday evening at the home field of the highest seeded winner from Tuesday's games. Third and fourth round games will be played next week on Tuesday & Friday and the regionals are set for May 21-25 with the state championship to be decided the weekend of May 31-June 1.

In the 1A Playoffs, Lincoln Charter, seeded #11 in the west, will host Union Academy from Monroe in a 7 PM game Tuesday. The winner will face Queens Grant from Matthews, the #6 seed, Friday evening. Cherryville got a first round bye. The Ironmen, seeded #3 in the west, will host the winner Friday of a Tuesday evening game in which Mtn. Island Charter, seeded #14, will host Mount Airy.

SOCCER

In the state girls soccer playoffs, East Lincoln, seeded #12 in the west, will host Franklin Tuesday at 6 PM. North Lincoln, seeded #29, will play at Belmont South Point Tuesday evening. Lincolnton, seeded #26 will play at Central Academy of Monroe. Fred T. Foard, seeded #5 in the west, will host North Surry Tuesday. Second round matches will be Friday at the home field of the higher seeded team winning on Tuesday.

In the 1A playoffs, Lincoln Charter, seeded #4 in the west, got a first round bye. They'll take on the winner of a Tuesday match between Pine Lake Prep, seeded #13, and Piedmont Charter, seeded #20. That second round match will be played Friday evening.

SOFTBALL

In the 2A softball playoffs, North Lincoln, seeded #4 in the west, will host Bandys, seeded #29, Tuesday evening.  West Lincoln, seeded #30, will travel to Lexington to play #3 seed North Davidson.  East Lincoln, seeded #11, will host #22 seed Bunker Hill.  Maiden, seeded #19, will play at #14 seed Central Davidson.  #21 seed Newton-Conover will play at #12 seed Mt. Pleasant.  

Second round games will be played on Friday at the home field of the higher seeded winning team from Tuesday games.

In the 1A softball playoffs, #14 seed Cherryville will host #19 seed South Stokes Tuesday evening.  Lincoln Charter, seeded #7 in the west, got a first-round bye and will play at home Friday against the winner of a Tuesday game between #10 Murphy and #23 Union Academy.  Mtn. Island Charter, seeded #5 in the west, also got a first round bye and will play at home Friday against the winner of a Tuesday game between #12 seed Pine Lake Prep and #21 seed Starmount.

The third and fourth round games will be played next Tuesday and Friday and the state championship is scheduled for the weekend of May 31-June 1.
