North Lincoln Goes After State Championship

Wayne Howard
Staff Writer

The North Lincoln Knights will travel to Greensboro Friday for the first game of a 2-out-of-3 series for the NCHSAA 2A Baseball Championship. The Knights will play the Randleman Tigers, regular season co-champs of the PAC7 2A Conference at the UNC-Greensboro baseball field.

The first game is set for 8 PM Friday night (May 31st). The second game of the series will be at 2 PM Saturday (June 1st) and if needed, game 3 will be at 8 PM Saturday night [could be moved up to 5 PM; see further explanation in later paragraph].

The Knights lost one of their Western Region Championship series games to West Lincoln last Thursday. Otherwise, they haven't lost since April 22nd.

The Tigers swept their Eastern Region series in two games; their last loss was a 7-6 game on April 25th to Providence Grove, PAC7 co-champs. They avenged that loss (and another to the same team on April 23rd) in the conference tournament, beating Providence Grove 11-2 on May 2nd to claim the PAC7 2A tournament championship.

North Lincoln will be the home team for game one, and if necessary, for game three. If the other state playoff series being played at UNC-G (Mooresville vs Corinth Holders from Wendell, NC for the 4A title) doesn't require a third game, then the third game of the North Lincoln vs Randleman series would be moved up to 5 PM.

Admission is $20 for all games, $8 for game one or game three only, and $12 for both games 2 & 3.

If you're going to the games, it'll take you about two hours to get there. Directions:

  • Get on I-40 east
  • Follow I-40 to Patterson St. in Greensboro. Take exit 216 from I-40 toward Greensboro Coliseum area
  • Continue on Patterson St., then take West Gate City Blvd. to Walker Ave.
  • The UNCG baseball stadium is at 1509 Walker Ave.
  • Spectators should park in Walker Deck or Lot 9.

Using GPS, your destination is 1509 Walker Ave., Greensboro, NC 27403

If you can't make it to Greensboro, you can watch the games online. Go to and subscribe. It'll cost you $9.95 but you can watch all three games plus other series being played. WLON Radio (1050 AM, 107.5 FM) will broadcast the North Lincoln games. You can also access their audio online at

Back in 2012, the late Larry Dellinger, having spent over half a century in the newspaper business, saw that the times had changed.  People were getting their news from the internet--more and more every day.  That's when he decided to start the Lincoln Herald.

A 2018 survey of  US adults found that 64% at least sometimes get news from a news website or app, about the same as the 64% who said they watch local TV news.  Almost half (47%) of adults get news at least sometimes from a social media site. That exceeds the 41% who read newspapers in print. TV and print actually lost ground from a similar survey conducted in 2016, while digital made advances in preference since then.
