LINCOLNTON, N.C.––The 24th annual Christian Ministry Golf Tournament is coming up Saturday, Aug. 17.

Christian Ministry Executive Director Mitzi Williams recently reminded the public that there’s still time for golf teams to register and for sponsors to step up.

“Sponsor a golf hole for your business, in memory of or in honor of,” she said, adding that those wishing to do may call the ministry to learn more.

Then Aug. 25 brings the annual “Cool Event” ice cream social at Salem Lutheran and United Church of Christ at 3410 Startown Road in Lincolnton. This is another benefit fundraiser for Christian Ministry, to which all the event’s proceeds will go. The fun starts at 3 p.m. Williams said the public is invited to come out and enjoy homemade ice cream, served up in bowls handcrafted by local potters. Tickets are $15 each.

And in other news, with school starting in just a few days, Christian Ministry’s emergency services volunteers are asking for back-to-school items. These include large backpacks, paper (wide-rule only), glue sticks, composition notebooks (not spiral), two-inch binders, and three-by-five-inch index cards.

Williams added that the emergency services efforts also need other items. These include bedsheets in twin, double, queen and king sizes and such household items as pots, pans, glassware and silverware.

The food pantry needs items as well. These include Chef Boyardee foods, crackers, pop-top canned meats, canned beans (not green beans), laundry detergent and toilet paper.

Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 230 E. Water St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 for more information.
