No 'three-peat'--the West Lincoln wrestlers won the South Fork Conference title, but they fell in a very close match to Fred T. Foard Tuesday in regional dual competition, ending their team season.

In 2017 and 2018 Fred T. Foard came into the regional duals undefeated, and West Lincoln knocked off the Tigers team.  The Rebels won the state 2A championship in 2018 and again last year--but this time, it was the Tigers' turn.

West beat Central Davidson in their first match on Tuesday 57-15, then took on the Tigers who had beaten Mt. Pleasant 59-24.  The Tigers edged the Rebels 36-33 bringing the West Lincoln team competition for the season to a close.

Rebels wrestlers, as well as those from Lincolnton, Maiden,  and Newton-Conover will advance to individual regional competition next weekend (Feb. 14th & 15th)in the west regionals at Wilkes Central High School in Wilkesboro.  Wrestlers from North Lincoln, East Lincoln & Bandys will compete in the midwest regionals in Lexington.  The top four in each class at those regionals will then advance to the state individual championship at the Greensboro Coliseum Febuary 20-22.

In other scores from the Dual Regionals  Tuesday, Lincolnton lost to Central Academy 43-24 in matches held at Lincolnton.

With the win, the Foard Tigers will advance to the next round at Foard High School on Thursday when they'll take on Central Academy.  Fred T. Foard is now 44-0 for the season.

Dual competiton will culminate Saturday (Feb. 8th) with the western and eastern regional champions meeting at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse for the State Championship.
