The NCHSAA 2A Wrestling Individual Wrestlers Regional Competition was held this weekend.

Wrestlers from West Lincoln, Lincolnton, Maiden, Newton-Conover and Fred T. Foard competed in the West Regionals at Wilkes Central High School in Wilkesboro. Wrestlers from North Lincoln, East Lincoln & Bandys competed in the Midwest Regionals in Lexington. The top four wrestlers in each class at the regionals will advance to the state individual championships at the Greensboro Coliseum next week (Febuary 20-22).

At the West Regionals in Wilkesboro:

  • Langston Hoffman of West Lincoln won the 120-lb division, improving his individual record to 25-5. Cameron Smith of Lincolnton finished second.
  • Xander Pendergrass of West won the 138-lb bracket, improving to 31-2. Foard's Braden Wharton finished third.
  • Canon Bridges from West took the 152-lb championship improving to 31-1. Foard's Justin Whalen finished third.
  • Joshua Nichols of Newton-Conover won the 170-lb class. Foard's Evan Steiger was fourth.
  • Landon Foor of Foard took first place in the 182-lb bracket, beating Cole Clark of Newton-Conover who took second.
  • Sakarri Morrison of Newton-Conover was tops in the 195-lb class; Jacob Belton of Foard was fourth.
  • In 285, Ryan Walker of Newton-Conover was the winner; Amorion McAfee of Foard finished third.
  • Ti Phansook from West took fourth place in the 106-lb bracket. Brock Carey of Fred T. Foard won that class, improving his record to 40-2.
  • In the 113-lb class, Ian Willis of Foard finished second and Chade Norman of West third.
  • Jamie Richard of Foard finished third in the 126-lb class.
  • Zane Birtchet from Foard won the 132-lb division. His record is now 55-7.
  • Ricky Reynolds from West won third place in the 145-lb bracket.
  • Mason Whitaker from West won fourth place in the 160-lb division.
  • Harley Scronce of West Lincoln claimed second place in teh 220-lb bracket.

All of those wrestlers will advance to the NCHSAA state championships next weekend.

Six wrestlers from Lincoln County finished in the top four at the Midwest Regional in Lexington.

  • Andrew Holden of North Lincoln won first place in the 132-lb division, improving his individual record to 42-7.
  • Joey Plyler of North claimed first in the 170-lb bracket. His record is now 43-7.
  • Trent Smith of East Lincoln won first place in the 285-lb division improving his record to 30-3.
  • Jorden Schlossman of North Lincoln took fourth place in the 106-lb division.
  • Caleb Hines of East Lincoln took third place in the 152-lb bracket.
  • Grayson Cannon of East took third in the 220-lb division.
