Lincoln Charter's Season Ends

It was close, but the Eagles fell to Chatham Charter 74-72 Tuesday night in NCHSAA 1A Basketball playoffs.  

Lincoln Charter fell behind early but tied the score in the second period and led by a point at halftime.  Chatham Charter broke a 37-all tie and held the lead until Shevin Patel hit a 3-pointer to give his team a 53-52 lead at the end of the third period.  In the fourth, Chatham Charter went up by five points before Axel Holm's three-poiner cut the lead to 54-62.  A pair of Sam Cogan free throws tied the game at 64-all.  Then Chatham Charter pushed to its biggest lead of the night, six points, and held on for a 74-72 victory.

The Mtn. Island Charter boys also saw their season end with an 85-60 loss to Winston-Salem Prep.

In the 2A girls playoffs, Newton-Conover advanced to the western finals with a 58-55 win over East Burke in overtime.  The two teams ended regulation tied at 47 and the Red Devils outscored their opponents 11-8 in the OT.

In 2A boys action, the Shelby Golden Lions advanced to the western region championship game against Forest Hills with an 80-60 win over North Davidson.
