For some, the 2020 season began the end of February, for others this week.

In high school baseball, Lincolnton hosted Hunter Huss on Monday and won that game 5-1. The Wolves had been scheduled to play at home Thursday against Highland Tech. On Friday at 6 PM, they'll play at Stuart Cramer.

West Lincoln began the season with a loss at Foard last Friday 6-3. The Rebels hosted East Burke Monday and bested North Gaston 12-2 Thursday. The play at home against Hickory on Friday evening at 6:30.

East Lincoln lost 4-2 at Cherryville Monday. The Mustangs host South Point Friday at 7 PM. The Ironmen play at North Gaston Friday evening.

The defending state champion North Lincoln Knights opened their season with two wins over Forestview: 3-0 in Gastonia on Monday and 1-0 at home Wednesday. Starter Jack Waggoner pitched 5 innings Wednesday, allowing only two hits and walking one batter while striking out four, but the win went to Matt Heavner who finished the game by striking out four in the final two innnings not allowing a hit. Jake Soorus led the knights at the plate going 2 for 3. Sam Brady and Kyle Brittain each had a hit. Heavner collected the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning. Sam Brady had two stolen bases and scored the only run. North plays at Foard Friday evening at 7.

Lincoln Charter lost its opening game at Covenant Day in Matthews Wednesday. The Eagles host Lake Norman Charter Friday evening at 7.

Maiden won at Foard Monday 3-2, then beat Watauga at home Wednesday 7-6. The Blue Devils play Bunker Hill Friday; the JV game at 4 and the varsity to follow at about 7 PM.

The softball season is also underway. The LHS girls managed only a single hit off Forestview pitcher Carson Upton Wednesday in an 18-0 five-inning loss. The sophomore sensation walked four Lincolnton batters, but her fastball was just too much. Lincolnton plays at Burns Friday at 6 PM.

North Lincoln is now 0-2 after a seventh inning uprising gave Lake Norman a 9-8 win.
Katie Wadkovsky and Skyla Morrison each had home runs for the Knights. McKayla Watts got her team through two outs in the sixth inning, but Tessa Hunt didn't fare as well. The Wildcats scored six runs in the top of the final inning, then held the Knights scoreless in the bottom of the seventh. North lost at Alexander Central on Monday 4-1. They host South Iredell at 5 PM Friday.

West Lincoln was scheduled for multiple games from last Friday through Wednesday, but no scores have been reported. They are scheduled to play at Cherryville at 4:30 Friday.

East Lincoln stole eight bases on eight attempts including three by Hannah Davis in winning 7-0 over North Gaston on Monday. Payton Baker struck out 14 Wildcats batters, walked only one, and had a no-hitter for the Mustangs. East will host Hopewell at 5 PM Friday.

Lincoln Charter lost its first two games: 6-5 at Maiden on Tuesday and 11-0 at Mtn. Island Charter Wednesday. The Eagles softballers play at Lake Norman Charter at 4 PM Friday.

In girls soccer, the North Lincoln girls split their first two matches--winning against North Gaston Monday 4-1, then losing to Central Academy Wednesday 2-0.

The Lincolnton girls managed a 1-1 tie at Shelby Wednesday. They beat Forestview 4-2 Thursday.

The West Lincoln girls beat Cherryville Monday 3-2, then lost at Foard 9-0 Wednesday. They lost their first home match Thursday to Draughn 5-0.

The East Lincoln girls beat Shelby Monday 2-1 and Polk County Wednesday 3-0. They play at home Friday at 7 against Central Academy.

The Lincoln Charter girls lost their opening match on Monday at Community School of Davidson 1-0. They also played Mooresville on Wednesday. They're scheduled to host Langtree Academy Friday at 5 PM.
