The defending state champion North Lincoln Knights have started off their season with three wins. Friday, North Lincoln beat Fred T. Foard 17-0, no-hitting the Tigers in a three-pitcher effort. Jake Soorus got the win, striking out six while walking one in three innings. Trace Dlugolenski went one-and-two-thirds innings and Sam Brady a third of an inning. Foard's batters couldn't manage a hit off any of the three. North's pitching has been stellar so far to say the least: three games and three shutouts. Landon Reeves held Forestview to only two hits while striking out 10 in six-and-two-thirds innings in the first game of the season Monday. Matt Heavner then struck out the only batter he faced. On Wednesday, Jack Waggoner struck out four and gave up only two hits in five innings. Heavner was again perfect in closing out the affair--no walks, no hits and striking out four. Sam Brady was named the Player of the Game Friday. He went 2-for-2 at the plate including a home run, knocked in four runs and scored three, and he had a stolen base. Through the first three games, Brady's batting average is .571. Soorus isn't far behind at .455. North plays at Lincolnton Monday evening at 7.
The Wolves are also 3-0 after a 4-3 extra inning win at Stuart Cramer Friday. It took nine innings for LHS to beat the Storm. Gavin Jimenez knocked in the winning run with a base hit. EJ Manjarres went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and freshman Easton Dellinger had two hits for the Wolves. Sophomore Braxton Eley got the win in relief. Will Blackburn and Gavin Queen each pitched three innings and Manjarres one before Eley. Earlier in the week, LHS beat Hunter Huss 5-1 and Highland Tech 12-2.
West Lincoln followed a Thursday win over North Gaston 12-2 with a victory over Hickory Friday 8-3. No details were provided. West will host East Lincoln Tuesday at 4 PM.
East Lincoln lost to South Point 5-3 Friday evening. Sophomore Graham Smiley went 2-for-3 in the loss including a home run.
North Gaston beat Cherryville Friday 5-0. The Ironmen's next game will be at West Lincoln on Wednesday (March 11th).
Lincoln Charter beat Lake Norman Charter 8-7. Anish Patel had a base hit driving in the winning run in the eighth inning to end the game. Hunter Harritan had a home run, and Mason Smith had three doubles for the Eagles. Lincoln Charter will play at Thomas Jefferson Academy Monday evening at 7.
