The West Lincoln Rebels boys golf team won their season opening match Thursday at Deer Brook Golf Club in Shelby. The Rebels played through a steady rain all match long, shooting a team score of 165 in the nine-hole event--22 strokes better than Shelby. The Rebels were led by match medalist Chase Cheatham who shot 37. Other Rebel scores were Lawson Harkey 40, Ramsey Coltrane 43, and Cade McConnell 44. The Rebels will open conference play Monday at 3:30 at Verdict Ridge Golf Course in eastern Lincoln County. This nine-hole outing will be the first South Fork 2A Conference event and will also include Lincolnton, North Lincoln, East Lincoln, Maiden, Newton-Conover and Bandys.

In a girls soccer doubleheader at East Lincoln, the North Lincoln girls played to a scoreless tie Friday with Polk County, making their season record 1-1-1. They'll host Shelby Monday at 5 PM. No report was available on the nightcap match between East Lincoln and Central Academy of Monroe. East will play at Foard Monday evening at 6:30. Foard is 3-0-1 after a tie with Kings Mtn. on Thursday.

West Lincoln will host East Burke Monday at 5 PM. The Rebels are 1-2 after losing to Draughn 5-0 Thursday. The Lincolnton girls will play at Kings Mtn. Monday at 6 PM. They are 1-0-1 after beating Forestview 4-2 Thursday. Maiden plays at North Gaston at 6 PM Monday.

Lincoln Charter beat Langtree Charter 10-1 Friday. They play at Thomas Jefferson at 5 PM Tuesday.

In softball, East Lincoln downed Hopewell 17-0, Burns beat Lincolnton 16-5 in six innings, Lincoln Charter won over Lake Norman Charter 12-2, North Lincoln downed South Iredell 18-3. Lincolnton will host North Lincoln Tuesday at 5 PM; East Lincoln will play at West Lincoln at 6. Maiden plays at Newton-Conover Tuesday afternoon at 5.
