Basketball Travel Team Tryouts, March 11 --- The Lake Norman Lightning Girls Basketball travel team will be holding tryouts for middle school and high school basketball teams for the spring season.  Girls ages 7th-12th grade are eligible to tryout for the team. Tryouts will be Wednesday, March 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at East Lincoln High School. LMS Wildcat Prowl 5k, Friday, March 13 --- Join us for the Lincolnton Middle School Wildcat Prowl on Friday Night March 13, 2020. We will utilize the Run Course of the Lincolnton Biathlon Event.  The race will begin in the back of Lincolnton Middle School by the finish line area. The 5k event will start at 6 p.m. Race day registration will open 4-5:30 p.m. on race day.   Packet pick up will be at the back of the school at the start/finish line. This event benefits Lincolnton Middle School Student Council and is directed by the staff. Entry fees are non-refundable.  LMS is located at 2361 Startown Road, Lincolnton, NC US 28092. St. James Elementary Royal Run 5k, Saturday, March 14 --- Please join us for the St. James Elementary School Royal Run 5k & 1 Mile Fun Walk on Saturday, March 14, 2020! We have an incredibly fun event planned, and all proceeds will directly benefit SJES to support the programming and supplies our children benefit from throughout the school year! Denver Nuggets Tryouts, March 16, 19, 23, 26 --- The Denver Nuggets Travel boys’ basketball teams will be holding tryouts for the 7th-11th Grade Boys from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the competition gym at East Lincoln High School, 6471 Hwy 73, Denver, NC 28037 on the following dates:

  • Monday, March 16
  • Thursday, March 19
  • Monday, March 23
  • Thursday, March 26

All basketball players in Lincoln and surrounding counties are encouraged to tryout.  Parent permission, medical consent, and information forms are required to tryout and can be found at http://denvernuggetsnc.teampages.com.

S. Ray Lowder Spring Spirit 5k, Saturday, March 21 ---Come out and join us for the  12th Annual “Spring Spirit” 5K Run / Walk on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 9 a.m. Race Day Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. All Pre-registered entrants can pick up our race chips and race day packets if you haven't already done so before race day. As a reminder, race day packets are available for pick up for all pre-registered racers/walkers on Friday, March 20, 2020. This school year, we have added 5th grade, so all proceeds will benefit the students of S. Ray Lowder Elementary School focusing on the enhancement of playground equipment and classroom technology. The run begins and ends at S. Ray Lowder winding its way through the beautiful Kennedy Drive neighborhood, East Park and Cedar Street block neighborhood and Rock Creek/Crest View Area of Lincolnton with plenty of flat and gentle slopes. Awards for the top male / female finisher and for age group winners along with tons of great door prizes. Post-race fun and family entertainment. S. Mustang Madness 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament, Saturday, March 28 (Deadline to Register Team March 15) --- Help Spread The Word! The First Annual Mustang Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 28 at East Lincoln High School from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. The tournament fundraiser is hosted by the East Lincoln Sports Boosters. Cost to register a 4-member team (3-players, with 1-alternate) is $100.  Each member of the team will receive a t-shirt. Age groups are 3/4 grade, 5/6 grade, 7/8 grade, 9/10 grade, 11/12 grade, ages 18-29, and ages 30 and up. Each team guaranteed three games. Both indoor gyms will run four games at a time. Awards for Top-3 teams in each age group. A 3-Point and Dunk Contest will be held with $5 entry fee.  Spectator fee is $5 for those age 5 and up each day. Registration through March 15 (online only). LVLC Team Bass Fishing Tournament, Saturday, March 28 --- The Long View Lions Club 10th Annual Team Bass Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, March 28 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lake Hickory-Wittenburg Access off Wildlife Access Road, Hickory in Alexander County. Minimum age registration is 18. Adult/Child team maximum age is 15. Pre-Entry Registration $80 per team by March 21 (mailed), $90 cash only fee day of the event. Cash Prizes ($1000, $500, $300-1st-3rd Place), Payback Side Pot, Payback Big Fish Pot. All tournament rules should be read carefully before signing the completed entry form when registering. Must comply with NC Game/Fish Laws/Regulations. No alcoholic beverages, stimulants, and/or depressants are prohibited in any boats. Tournament will be held regardless of weather conditions. However, the Tournament Officials may change starting times as it is deemed necessary for the safety of the contestants. Proceeds provides services for the blind/visually impaired and needy of Catawba County. Check should be made payable to Long View Lions Club with designation fishing tournament in memo section and mailed no later than March 14 to Lion Eric Killian, 4404 Jetty Lane, Hickory, NC 28602.
