LINCOLNTON––Gov. Roy Cooper’s renewed restrictions this week have thrown a spanner into Christian Ministry’s works.
According to executive director Mitzi Williams, the local charitable organization has been forced to reschedule its annual fundraiser, the “Amazing Race Against Hunger,” to the spring.
“Due to the COVID-19 (corona virus disease, 2019) and the uncertainty of when we will be able to enter into Phase III (lessened State-mandated virus-related restrictions), Christian Ministry has decided to postpone the ‘Amazing Race Against Hunger’ until some time in the spring of 2021,” she said. “Christian Ministry will be contacting you by e-mail or postal mail when we have decided on a date for this event in the spring.”
In other news, Williams said the ministry is here to help folks in this time of need.
“Did you know that Christian Ministry has several ways to help you and your family with food or financial assistance?” she rhetorically asked.
If you qualify for assistance, you can come by the ministry’s main office at 207 S. Poplar St. in Lincolnton, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Plus, there are now two satellite offices. There’s McKendree United Methodist Church at 3537 Maiden Hwy. in Lincolnton. This office is open the second Saturday of every month, 10 a.m.-noon, and the third Thursday of each month, 5-7 p.m. And the other satellite office is at Cedar Grove Lutheran at 261 Cedar Grove Church Road in Vale. This office is open on the first Thursday of every month, 5-7 p.m.
And closer to home, Williams noted that there is now an extra food giveaway at the Christian Ministry main offices in Lincolnton. This is held on Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 207 S. Poplar St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 or (704) 732-0383 for more information on these and other upcoming efforts, as well as volunteer opportunities for individuals and church and business groups.
