BANNER ELK, N.C. – Junior Lexi Todd (Vero Beach, Fla. / Vero Beach). freshmen Taylor Barrineau (Iron Station, N.C. / East Lincoln) and Sam Smith (Leland, N.C. / North Brunswick) all scored first-half goals to lead the Lees McRae Green Team to a 3-2 victory in the final Green & White scrimmage for the women’s soccer program.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Green – 3, White - 2
LOCATION: Lees-McRae Practice Fields – Banner Elk, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gen Porsche (Huntley, Ill. / Huntley), Barrineau and Todd all chipped in assists for the Green Team.
  • Hannah Davies (Fleet, Hampshire, England / Montverde Academy) scored both goals for the White Team with assists going to Tia Davenport (Jacksonville, Fla. / Christ’s Church Academy) and Olivia Hoirup (Raleigh, N.C. / Stenhus Gymnasium).
  • Barrineau opened the game’s scoring with a break-away goal in the second minute of the contest off a long pass from Todd.
  • Todd extended the lead to 2-0, just over seven minutes later, as she converted a pass from Porsche into a one-timer from just inside the 18-yard box.
  • The Green Team closed out its scoring in the 11th minute as Smith received a pass from Barrineau and buried a shot into the bottom-right corner.
  • Davies scored just five minutes before the halftime whistle to trim the deficit to 3-1 off an assist from Davenport.
  • The White Team cut the lead to 3-2, with just under 14 minutes left, as Davies tallied her second goal on a shot from outside the 18-yard box off an assist from Hoirup.
  • Both teams had chances late to add another marker, but goalkeepers Hope Sanborn (Monroe, N.C. / Sun Valley) and Sophia Leonetti (Pembroke Pines, Fla. West Broward) held strong to preserve the 3-2 score.

UP NEXT: The Lees-McRae women’s soccer team will now shift their focus to the 2021 regular season. The next Green & White scrimmage will be on Friday, Nov. 6 with a men’s soccer scrimmage starting at 4 p.m.
