Fresh from claiming conference titles, members of the track teams at North Lincoln will be involved in the 2021 NCHSAA State Track & Field Championships Friday (June 25th) and Saturday (June 26th) at Truist Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
North Lincoln boys and girls performed especially well in distance running events in claiming the regional championship last week at East Burke High School.
In the 2A lineup for the state competition, Ty Castro of North Lincoln is seeded second in the boys shot put and discus throw. Angie Allen is the defending champ and first seed in the girls 1600-meter run and 1st in the 800-meter run; she is seeded third in the girls 3200-meter run behind teammate Lori Glavan and Lincolnton's Katherine Hopkins. Hopkins is seeded 2nd in the 1600-meter run.
The Knights' Jacob Scott is the top seed in the boys 3200-meter; Miles Phillips is seeded first in the 800-meter and third in the 1600. Chloe Soorus is seeded second in the girls pole vault.
East Lincoln's Taryn Giles-Robinette is seeded third in the girls discus throw and Carly Correll of North is seeded fourth.
West Lincoln's boys 4x200 relay team is seeded 16th in the listing for that event. The team includes Mason Huitt, Zach Daigler, Evan Rye and Charlie Wyant.
The NCHSAA Individual Wrestling State 2A Championships will be held Saturday at Wheatmore High School in Trinity. Several wrestlers from West Lincoln and East Lincoln along with some from Bandys, Newton-Conover and Fred T. Foard will be involved. [See our earlier article on wrestling.]
