They had to play most of two games in one day, but Idaho Falls, Idaho Post 56 won both to advance to the championship game of the American Legion World Series in Shelby. On Sunday (Aug. 15th), Beverly, Mass. Post 331, was at bat in the bottom of the first inning when play was suspended. Beverly had a 2-1 lead on Idaho Falls with two outs and a runner on third base when play was suspended. The Idaho Falls team went back to work Monday morning and won that game 13-3.
Then, as the runner-up team from the Stripes Division, they took on Tupelo, Mississippi, declared Sunday as the Stars Division winner, in the first of two semi-finals games Monday afternoon. They won that game 9-3.
The Potato State team will now play the winner of the second semi-final game between Dubuque County, Iowa Post 137, winners of the Stripes Division and the team from Honolulu, Hawaii, runner-up from the Stars Division, for the championship. That game was postponed after rain continued into early Monday evening. It will be played Tuesday afternoon at 5 PM--weather permitting. If it isn't rained out, following that game, plans are to play the championship game Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, the weather doesn't appear promising for either game.
