The Lincolnton Wolves didn't look like the best 2A team in the state for much of their Thursday night home match against Forestview. For most of the game, it would be easy to say it was due to missing one of their senior center backs, Captian Zach Zigorski. Hanging on to their #1 2A state ranking put a little more pressure than this young Wolves team was ready to handle; they came out flat and had issues in their formation from the start.
The team looked lethargic from the opening whistle and at the 19-minute mark conceded an early goal. Then, perhaps motivated by trailing for the first time this season, they came to life--led by senior Kevin Calvo, Zander Harrison, Edwin Olivia, and goalkeeper Sam Carpenter, who had eight saves.
LHS eventually found their way back into the game with about 18 minutes left to play when sophmore Aaron Lail drove down the left sideline and was brought down. He was awarded a free kick right outside the box. Sophmore Jarret Trejo stepped up to take the kick and scored his 2nd goal of the season, bending his shot toward the upper near post. The Jaguars goalkeeper got a hand on the ball, but it was not enough to change the trajectory of the shot which snapped the back of the net.
After that goal, the Wolves created a half dozen good chances, but were unable to score again, and since this was a non-conference match, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
