East Lincoln @ Hickory
East Lincoln will no doubt have a different look when the Mustangs play at Hickory Friday night. The duo of Tyler Mizzell and Markell Clark has delighted East fans while causing misery for opponents. Both were knocked out of the Lincolnton game September 3rd. Mizzell suffered an injury to his left arm and had to have surgery last Friday (Sept. 10th).
This week, look for Jeremiah Jones, who stepped in for Clark after his injury, to take Mizzell's place in the Mustangs backfield. East is 3-0 after that close victory over the Wolves. The Red Tornadoes are 1-2 after losing to Draughn two weeks ago. This will be the first Western Foothills 3A Conference game for both. East Lincoln, by the way, is one of only two teams in the conference who haven't lost.
North Lincoln @ Statesville
The other is Statesville. The Greyhounds are 2-0 after winning their first two games in August. They haven't played since August 27th. This week, Statesville will host North Lincoln. The Knights are 2-1. They lost their season opener to West Lincoln 14-7, then beat Lincolnton and won an offensive show over Northwest Cabarrus two weeks ago.
Both the East Lincoln at Hickory and North Lincoln at Statesville games will be live streamed on NFHS Network. It costs $10.99 a month for a subscription but comes in handy when you can't get to an out-of-town game. [https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/subscribe/retail]
Both those games are scheduled for 7 PM kickoffs.
West Lincoln @ Bandys
West Lincoln's game at Bandys won't be live streamed, but the Rebels and Trojans opening Catawba Valley 2A Conference game will be broadcast by WNNC Radio, Newton (1230AM, 101.3FM). You can't hear them at night in Lincoln County, but you can still hear the game online at https://wnncradio.com/football/.
West is 3-0 after a win over Ashbrook last week. Their other wins were over North and Cherryville. The Trojans are 2-0 after lop-sided wins over St. Stephens and Fred T. Foard. They had been on COVID protocol but are scheduled to play this Friday at 7:30.
NOTE: this game is not being carried on NFHS Network, but a Facebook post indicates it can be watched online. The post lists a URL of www.shincan82.com/hs-football.php. We cannot determine the validity of that URL. The NCHSAA issued a warning last week that some of the links to watch games online are actually efforts to get your information or infect your computer or phone with a virus, so proceed with caution if you want to try this link. Listening to the game on WNNC (including their online audio) is safe, and they'll have reports from other games involving Catawba County teams. [IF you do decide to try this link, we'd be interested in hearing from you whether it worked or not, etc.]
Bunker Hill @ Lincolnton
Lincolnton is the only Lincoln County team with a home game. Winless in three starts, the Wolves have show steady improvement. They got more yards rushing than the Mustangs week before last and more than the Knights the week before that, but lost both those games. The Bears scored over 40 points in each of their last two games. The first of those was at winless St. Stephens--and last week, they beat North Iredell, who haven't won a game since September 2018. The Bunker Hill at Lincolnton game will be broadcast by WLON Radio (1050AM, 107.5FM) and also available online at ktcbroadcasting.com.
Maiden game postponed
The Maiden Blue Devils are 3-0 after an overtime win over Christ School from Arden, NC, last Friday. They were scheduled to play at East Burke this week, but that school has COVID problems, so the game has been tentatively rescheduled for Tuesday night September 28th. That means Maiden will play Friday night September 24th at West Lincoln, then play at East Burke on Tuesday and at home against West Caldwell on Friday.
It's 'out of the frying pan and into the fire' as the Blue Devils then host Bandys on Oct. 8th and play at Bunker Hill on the 15th.
While the Blue Devils varsity will not have a game this Friday night, the East Burke at Maiden JV game was played Thursday night. The Maiden JVs improved to 2-2 with a 31-8 win.
So far, no COVID situations have changed the following games scheduled for this week:
Cherryville @ Shelby
The Ironmen are likely in for a rough night. Shelby lost for the first time last week, but the Golden Lions cut a 44-14 deficit to 44-37 before giving up another late touchdown to South Carolina powerhouse South Pointe (Rock Hill). Cherryville is 1-2 after losing to Chase last week. The game will be broadcast by WCLS Radio (1590AM, 92.3FM) and also available at ktcbroadcasting.com.
Like the previously mentioned West Lincoln @ Bandys game, an online (Facebook events) post indicates you can watch this game. The URL given is www.shincan82.com/hs-football.php. It is not an NFHS Network event, and we cannot ascertain the safety of this link. [IF you try it, we'd be interested in hearing from you about your experience...did it work? Problems?]
Forestview @ North Gaston
The Wildcats are underdogs again hosting the Jaguars. North Gaston is 0-4 while Forestview is 1-2.
Kings Mtn. @ Hunter Huss
The Mountaineers, now 2-1, came from a 14-point first half deficit to beat Burns two weeks ago. The Huskies were demolished by Hickory Ridge on August 20th, and thanks to COVID, they haven't played since.
Crest @ Ashbrook
The Chargers lost 21-20 to Burns, then beat East Gaston. The Green Wave's only game so far was their loss to West Lincoln. The game will be on WOHS Radio (1390AM, 101.5FM) and also online at ktcbroadcasting.com.
Stuart Cramer @ South Point
Both teams are 2-1, but South Point's running attack will be too much to handle for the Storm, who have never beaten the Red Raiders. Play-by-play audio of the game will be available at wgncradio.com.
Cherokee @ East Gaston
South Caldwell @ Hibriten
St. Stephens @ West Iredell
The St. Stephens @ West Iredell game will also be on the NFHS Network.
Fred T. Foard @ North Iredell
Newton-Conover @ West Caldwell
Highland Tech @ Burns
Bessemer City @ Thomas Jefferson Academy
Pine Lake Prep @ Mtn. Island Charter
