East Lincoln lost to North Iredell 1-0 as the Raiders' defense proved impenetrable.  The Mustangs had plenty of shots on goal, but North Iredell's goalkeeper had 19 saves.  The game was one of offense (East scored more goals than any other Western Foothills team-54 in conference play, 66 overall) against defense (North Iredell allowed less goals than any other-16 in the league, 18 overall). The loss dropped the Mustangs to fourth place in the league with a 9-4-1 record (11-8-2 overall).  Hickory finished the regular season with an 11-2-1 conference mark (17-3-1 overall) and won the league title despite a 3-2 loss on Wednesday to Fred T. Foard.  The win gave the Tigers a 10-4 conference record and a tie for second place with North Iredell.  Foard finished 12-6 overall.

North Lincoln finished on a positive note with the Knights' second consecutive win 1-0 over West Iredell.  North had beaten Foard on Monday 2-1.

Four second half goals gave Lincolnton a 4-0 win over West Lincoln Wednesday and improved the Wolves to 13-0-1 in the Catawba Valley Conference (16-0-3 overall).  Lincolnton finished the regular season with a one-game advantage over Newton-Conover for the top spot in the conference.  The Red Devils also won Wednesday, 8-2 over Maiden.  Bandys finished with a 5-0 win over Bunker Hill.

Lincolnton and Newton-Conover are assured playoff positions.  The Wolves will play at home in the first round beginning Monday.  Bandys and Bunker Hill will likely also be in the playoffs as will Lincoln Charter.  The Eagles beat East Lincoln in a non-conference match in the rain Thursday afternoon (Oct. 28th).

Lincoln Charter lost to Christ the King on Tuesday 4-1.  Despite finishing fifth out of six teams in the Catawba Shores Conference, they appear likely to be included in the playoffs because three of the top four teams in the conference are 1A teams. If so, they'll play an away game on Monday.  In Thursday's match with East, the Eagles scored three first half goals for a 3-2 halftime lead, then scored another in the second half.

In the 3A playoffs, Hickory, Foard, North Iredell and East Lincoln will likely be in the playoffs (the top two teams in the Western Foothills are guaranteed spots).  All four of those will most likely have home matches on Monday.  St. Stephens appears likely to be in the playoffs as well, and with those two wins in the final two regular season games, it appears that North Lincoln may also be included.  If so, they'll start with a road game, likely at Stuart Cramer on Monday.

The playoff brackets are expected to be announced on Friday (Oct. 29th).
