Two seniors and a freshman accounted for three of the five goals scored by the Lees-McRae women's soccer team on Saturday as the Bobcats finished the regular season with a 5-0 win over Southern Wesleyan. But a sophomore, Taylor Barrineau, who played high school soccer at East Lincoln, scored two goals in helping her team secure the #4 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas tournament.
The win gave the Bobcats a regular season record of 11-3-2 (8-2-2 in the conference). Lees-McRae scored just three minutes into the game as senior Pali Smith made her third goal of the season. The Bobcats tallied two more shots-on-goal in the next seven minutes and in the 14th minute as senior Alexa Todd buried her fifth goal of the season
Taylor Barrineau scored Lees-McRae's third first half goal at 28:49.
After 20 minutes of scoreless action to open the second half, Barrineau scored her second goal of the game and sixth of the season to extend the lead to 4-0. Freshman Sierra Shuey added the fifth and final goal on a header at 67:51.
The Bobcats will enter the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament as the #4 seed, but will have to wait until Wednesday to see who they will host in the quarterfinal round on Saturday (Nov. 6th).
