Lincolnton's soccer team experienced the same problem Tuesday night that they had last Thursday. This time, they were unable to overcome a first half goal by Shelby just three minutes into the match. After the Wolves came close to scoring in answer to that goal, the Golden Lions played 'keep away' for the rest of the night. The Wolves only loss of the season ends what we had called 'the dream season.' They finished with a 20-1-3 record.
For the eleven seniors on the LHS team, it was their final game of high school soccer.
For Hickory's Red Tornadoes, it was the exact opposite story. A second half goal was all they needed to beat the Concord Spiders and advance to the state 3A title game. Hickory, now 22-3-1, has shut out its last four opponents in the playoffs.
While there were 11 seniors on the LHS team, there were almost as many freshmen and sophomores, a strong nucleus for next year.
Hard as we try to keep up with local high school sports, we can't be everywhere. That's why we we really appreciate it when coaches, players, and fans help us with information, scores, photos, signings, etc. involving their teams. The Lincoln Herald has been providing local news, information about community events, sports scores, the obituaries, and more--for FREE--for over nine years now.
