The Catawba Valley Conference has named its Boys Soccer All-Conference selections. Lincolnton, which finished the regular season unbeaten and made it to the final four in the NCHSAA 2A playoffs, had five players named All-Conference. Sophomore Aaron Lail and freshman Jesus "Chuy" Tellez-Blanco-Tellez were also selected.
Second place Newton-Conover, which finished with just one loss in the league--to Lincolnton--and who tied the Wolves in their other meeting, got four All-Conference selections: sophomore Jesus “Chucho” Mejia, who led the conference in scoring with 27 goals, senior Benjamin Soto, and juniors Chris Ramirez and Brayan Maldonado-Guzman.
Bandys, which finished third with a 9-5 league record, also got four: Colin Miller, Josh Ramirez, Jacob Bandel and CJ Schronce.
Other All-Conference selections were Alexander Gutierrez of West Lincoln; Lawson Vang and Thomas Gaviria of Bunker Hill; Brian Silva, Jayco Castro and Jeremy Castello of West Caldwell; Maiden's Davis Higgins and Maximiliano Martinez; and Andrew Martufi from East Burke.
The defensive player of the year award went to Colin Miller of Bandys; Jesus "Chucho" Mejia of Newton-Conover was named offensive player of the year, and Albert "Ric" Lester of Bandys coach of the year.
