After losing two straight in their most recent outings, the East Lincoln Mustangs got back on track with a 12-5 win over North Iredell Tuesday. The Mustangs were led by Graham Smiley, who went 2 for 3 at the plate including a home run and a double and drove in five runs. North Iredell tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, but East scored 3 runs in the sixth and 5 in the seventh. Seth Haigler, who came on after starter Logan Palmer got into difficulty, got credit for the win, striking out four of the five batters he faced.
Lincoln Charter's Eagles lost for the first time this season to Pine Lake Prep on Tuesday. Mason Smith had a home run and a double and drove in two runs as Lincoln Charter improved to 9-1 Wednesday beating Davidson Day 6-5.
BASEBALL STANDINGS (as of March 31st)
The Catawba Valley Conference is led by Bandys with a 6-1 record. Lincolnton and West Lincoln are tied for second at 5-2.
St. Stephens is atop the Western Foothills Conference with a 6-0 conference record. Fred T. Foard and North Lincoln are tied for second at 5-1. East Lincoln is next with a 4-2 league mark.
In the Catawba Shores Conference, Lincoln Charter is tied for second with a 2-1 record. Pine Lake Prep is 3-0 in the league.
In the Southern Piedmont Conference, Cherryville is in third place with a 4-1 league mark. Burns is 5-0 in first place and East Gaston 6-1 in second.
In softball, the East Lincoln girls won their 10th game Tuesday without a loss, beating North Iredell 10-0. Leah Correll got the win, allowing just three hits while striking out 10.
Senior Riley Fox allowed only two hits while striking out four as the Bandys softball team beat Fred T. Foard Wednesday. The win gives the Trojans an 11-2 overall record. At 7-0, they lead the CVAC. West Lincoln is second at 6-1; Maiden is third at 5-2.
At 6-0 in the league, 10-0 overall, East Lincoln is on top in the WFAC standings. North Lincoln and St. Stephens are tied for second at 5-1.
The East Lincoln girls soccer team stayed a game back of leader Hickory in the WFAC standings with a 2-0 win Tuesday over North Iredell. East is currently in second place in the WFAC with a 3-0 conference record; Hickory is on top at 4-0. Maiden is atop the CVAC at 3-0. Lincolnton, at 2-1, is tied with two other teams for second place.
