The West Lincoln softball team is on top in the Catawba Valley Conference after posting two wins last week: on Tuesday (April 5th) the Rebels beat Maiden 6-4; on Friday (April 8th), they shut out Bunker Hill 15-0. In the Tuesday win over Maiden, Carolina Robinson went 2 for 4 with a home run and batted in four runs. Gracie Elmore went 3 for 4 including a double; Farrah Richardson went 3 for 5 including a double and Chloe Norman batted 2 for 3.
On Friday, the Rebels slugged out 15 runs in two innings and the game ended after the top of the third with a 15-0 score. Surprisingly, those 15 runs were scored with no home runs and only two extra base hits.
The Rebels are 11-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference. They're tied with Bandys for tops in the league. The two teams have played twice: Bandys won an 8-inning game 6-5 on March 8th; West won on Friday April 1st 6-4.
West will host a non-conference game with East Lincoln Tuesday (April 12th); play at home against Newton-Conover at 6 PM Wednesday; then travel to West Caldwell on Thursday (5 PM).
Bandys will host Maiden Tuesday (6 PM); then play at Newton-Conover Thursday. Maiden will host St. Stephens in a non-conference game Wednesday (6 PM) and Bunker Hill Thursday (also 6 PM).
Lincolnton hosts West Caldwell Tuesday (4:30); then plays at East Burke on Thursday (5 PM).
East Lincoln continues atop the Western Foothills Conference. The unbeaten Mustangs are now 14-0 overall, 10-0 in the league. That has them two games in front of second place North Lincoln and 2½ ahead of Fred T. Foard.
East scored 49 runs in three games last week: a 12-0 win over Hickory on Wednesday, a 23-1 win at Statesville Thursday, and a 14-0 win at West Iredell Friday. Junior Leah Correll has 13 of those 15 wins. Her ERA is an amazing 0.65. She has struck out 138 of the 261 batters she has faced while giving up only 37 hits and only one walk.
After playing at West Lincoln Tuesday, East will host Foard at 6 PM Thursday.
North Lincoln won its 11th game of the season 10-0 over North Iredell on Monday. The Knights play at St. Stephens at 6 PM Wednesday.
Foard plays at home against winless Statesville Tuesday (6 PM) before visiting East Lincoln Thursday.
Cherryville hosts Highland Tech Tuesday (5 PM); then visits the Rams Thursday (6 PM).
