North Lincoln beat St. Stephens 2-1 Wednesday to move into a tie for the top spot in the Western Foothills Conference. The Knights scored a run in the top of the first and second innings, and after giving up one in the bottom of the first, Landon Reeves went the distance, striking out five and allowing a total of eight hits. Maddux Walker and Matt Heavner each had a double for the Knights. Walker drove in one run and Heavner scored the other.

Gavin Houser batted 2 for 4 and drove in four runs; Isaac Armstrong went 2 for 4, had a double and drove in two runs, and also got the win on the mound as East Lincoln downed Fred T. Foard 13-3 Wednesday. The loss by Foard plus St. Stephens loss to North Lincoln shook up the Western Foothills Conference standings. North Lincoln joins Foard in first place with a 9-2 league mark. East Lincoln and St. Stephens follow, tied with 8-3 conference records. East is now 11-3 overall.

Lincolnton held on to its second place position in the Catawba Valley Conference with a 14-7 win at East Burke. The Wolves' win leaves them one game behind Bandys; LHS is now 8-3 in the league, 11-6 overall.

The Trojans continue on top in the CVAC at 10-2 (13-4 overall). They shut out Newton-Conover 11-0 in five innings Wednesday. Parker Styborski went 4 for 4 including two triples and batted in six runs; but the hero in this one was again Terick Bumgarner. The star pitcher tossed a no-hitter, striking out 10 batters (that makes 58 this season over 30 innings). His ERA is now 1.38 and this was his third shutout.

Weather permitting, West Lincoln is scheduled to play at West Caldwell Thursday; Maiden is scheduled to host Bunker Hill.

After beating Highland Tech Tuesday 12-2, the Cherryville Ironmen won 11-0 Wednesday in Gastonia.
