Wet grounds forced a postponement of the scheduled Tuesday start of the East Lincoln vs South Rowan series to determine the 3A Western Region championship.  It will now begin Wednesday at 7 PM at South Rowan. The second game will be played at East Lincoln Thursday night, and if needed, the third will be played Saturday at South Rowan.

Cherryville won the first game of its 1A series with Union Academy on Tuesday. The Ironmen need just one more win in that series to advance to a three-game series next week for the state championship.

Cherryville gave up a run in the top of the first inning Tuesday night, but after that, the visitors didn't score again.  The Ironmen scored four runs in each of the first two innings and added another in the sixth in beating Union Academy 9-1.

The second game in the series moves to Monroe on Thursday.  If needed, the third game will be played Saturday at Cherryville.

All season long, it looked like the East Lincoln softball team had the school's best chance at a state title this Spring, but the baseball team is in the Western Region championship series, and the girls soccer team needs just one more round to make it to the regional round.

East Lincoln beat Asheboro 3-0 Tuesday evening and the Mustangs will now play at Lake Norman Charter on Thursday.  East is now 18-3-3 on the year. Lake Norman Charter is 23-1. A win would put them into the regionals against the winner of a Thursday match at South Point.  The Red Raiders remained unbeaten this season with a 5-0 win over Atkins on Tuesday.  They're now 22-0 going into the 6 PM Thursday match.
