It depended on where you were Thursday. While some areas got lots of rain and dangerous wind, others weren't so affected. For the East Lincoln baseball team, the Thursday evening weather meant the second game of their series with South Rowan got postponed until Friday night at East Lincoln. If the Mustangs win, a third and deciding game for the West Region NCHSAA 3A championship will be played at China Grove on Saturday. East lost the first game on Wednesday 11-1.
The weather wasn't the problem for the East Lincoln girls soccer team; their problem was the Lake Norman Charter team that hasn't lost since early March and is now 24-1. The Knights eliminated the Mustangs with a 6-3 win in Huntersville Thursday evening. The match did get held up for several minutes because of rain after the LNC team that had fallen behind 2-0 managed to tie it with just two minutes left and force overtimes. They scored in both the extra 10-minute periods. The Mustangs finished the season with a record of 18-4-3 and won the Western Foothills Conference championship.
Cherryville had rain and wind, but the Ironmen weren't playing at home. They played at Monroe Thursday and lost the second game of their 1A Western Region championship series to Union Academy 10-5. The Cardinals pounded out 14 hits off Cherryville pitching and their own pitchers allowed just 9. The third and deciding game will be played in Cherryville on Saturday. The winner goes to a state championship series next week.
