As they had in game two of the Area IV American Legion baseball semifinal series, Cherryville Post 100 took a 1-0 lead Saturday night (July 16th) when Zane Brockman's double scored Collin Robinson in the third inning.

The Gaston Braves (sponsored by posts 144-266) tied the game in the fourth, but in the bottom of that inning, Cherryville loaded the bases thanks to two walks by the Braves' pitcher.  Then a pickoff attempt resulted in a bad throw to third base and Joseph Webb scored to give Post 100 a 2-1 lead.

As in the first two games, Post 100 had only four hits, but walks and three Braves errors made the difference along with another outstanding pitching performance.  Ashton Pope went six-and-a-third innings, giving up just four hits and walking only one batter while striking out five.  He issued his second base on balls in the bottom of the seventh to pinch hitter Dylan Owenby.  Then Kanon Willis came on in relief and got the last two batters on a fly out to left field and a line drive to the second baseman.

The win leaves Post 100 trailing two games to one in the best of seven series, but it assures there'll be at least one more game a Fraley Field this season.  After a Sunday night game four at South Point High School, the two teams will play Monday night in Cherryville.  Both games start at 7 PM.
