A lightning delay and exta innings that extended the game that preceded the Cherryville Post 100 game in the state American Legion baseball tournamen Tuesday night, but they played well when they finally got to play.
Hope Mills Post 32 took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Cherryville Post 100 scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 3-2; then three more in the 6th. Hope Mills got another run in the 7th, but Cherryville didn't need any more, winning 6-4 in the first of their games in the NC State Tournament of American Legion baseball at Campbell University.
Like the American Legion World Series (which is coming up in August in Shelby), the state tournament is a pool play affair. Post 100 is in the Stars Pool. The Cherryville team will play Wednesday night at 7:30 against Fuquay-Varina Post 116.
Joseph Webb from Burns High School was the starting and winning pitcher for Post 100, recording 11 strikeouts.
