Schedule Update
Updated Thursday AM with Wednesday scores

Wayne Howard

Hurricane Ian pummeled Florida on Wednesday.  At 4 AM Thursday it was located just south of Orlando and by shortly after 8 AM is expected to exit the state on its Atlantic coast and drift northward over the ocean before coming ashore again between Savannah & Charleston.  From there, it will take a northwesterly trip through our area.  It was a category 4 storm when it came ashore about 2 PM Wednesday; it is now a category 1.  By the time it reaches us, it will be a tropical storm and not a hurricane.  That should be early Saturday morning.

With heavy rain forecast for Friday night, area schools changed their schedule early this week--moving JV games to Wednesday night and varsity games to Thursday.

Wednesday's JV schedule includes the Lincolnton JVs playing at Bandys at 7:30. The Lincolnton Middle School team will play Burns Middle School at LHS Stadium at 4 PM. The Lincolnton volleyball team will play Bandys at LHS at 4 PM.

West Lincoln's JVs will play at Bunker Hill at 7 PM. The East Lincoln JVs will play at West Iredell at 7. The North Lincoln JVs will play at North Iredell at 7. Maiden's JVs will host West Caldwell at 7. Foard's JVs are scheduled to play at Statesville at 7.

For East Lincoln, the storm couldn't have come at a worse time. It's Homecoming Week. The Homecoming parade will now be held Thursday evening at 6:15. The undefeated Mustangs will host West Iredell at 7:30.

North Lincoln's Homecoming will be on October 14th against Fred T. Foard. This week's game vs North Iredell would have been a home game, but work on the track at North Lincoln will force them to play that game at North Iredell. It will start at 7 PM Thursday.

West Lincoln will host Bunker Hill Thursday at 7:30 PM.

Maiden will play at West Caldwell at 7:00. Fred T. Foard will host Statesville at 7:30. St. Stephens will visit Hickory at 7:30. The Red Tornadoes are hoping for a win that could produce a three-way tie for the top spot in the Western Foothills Conference if the Indians could then upset East Lincoln on Oct. 14th.

Other games Thursday night include:
East Burke at Newton-Conover 7:30
Bessemer City at Burns 7:30
East Gaston at Thomas Jefferson 7 PM
Ashbrook at North Gaston 7:30
Crest at South Point 7:30
