Fourth Round Scores
The magical season came to an end for the Maiden Blue Devils Friday night as they lost for the first time in a fourth round playoff game at East Surry.  Shelby won its game with Reidsville and South Point beat Crest in overtime.

The NCHSAA football playoffs continue this Friday night.  No Lincoln County team is still involved, but round four includes one team each from Catawba and Gaston counties and two from Cleveland.

The North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association has released its choices for All-State and All-Region.  Center back Zack Zagorski of Lincolnton was named All-State.

Basketball, Wrestling, Swimming All Underway
Volleyball, cross country, boys soccer, girls golf, girls tennis...those high school seasons for 2021-2022 have ended. High school football is still happening for a small number of teams still hoping for a state title.  Now it's time for the winter season sports. Swimming,  basketball and wrestling are underway.

Shelby, the team that handed Lincolnton its only defeat of the season, won the NCHSAA 2A boys soccer championship on Saturday.

Soccer Season Ends for LHS
The dream season came to an end for the Lincolnton Wolves soccer team Tuesday evening.  Shelby won the match 1-0 and advances to the state championship game.  The Wolves finish with a 20-1-3 record, the loss to Shelby their only one of the season.

Lincolnton's unbeaten soccer team will play at home this Tuesday evening (Nov. 16th) against Shelby.  The winner will claim the western region 2A title and play for the NCHSAA 2A championship this weekend in Cary.

Dream Season Continues for LHS Soccer
Lincolnton is still unbeaten, but it was tough this time.  The Wolves trailed 1-0 at halftime and didn't score until four minutes left in regulation.  Two OTs and two golden goal sudden death periods didn't end the ordeal, but the Wolves finally prevailed by outscoring Salisbury 6-5 on penalty kicks for their 20th win.

Football Playoffs
West Lincoln and Maiden square off in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A football playoffs Friday night. It's a rematch of a regular season game won by the Blue Devils who scored the winning touchdown with just eight seconds left. East Lincoln will play at Statesville in the 3A second round.

The soccer season came to an end for East Lincoln Thursday evening.  The Mustangs lost to Concord, the same team that eliminated North Lincoln in the third round.  Lincolnton's undefeated team will host Salisbury in a fourth round game Thursday.  [The forecast calls for rain; if the game is postponed, we'll post an update.]

Lincolnton and East Lincoln advanced to the fourth round of the NCHSAA soccer playoffs with wins Monday evening.  The Wolves, still unbeaten after a 3-2 win over Lincoln Charter, will now host Salisbury in the fourth round Thursday.  East will play at Concord, the team that eliminated North Lincoln 2-0 Monday.

Saturday was Senior Day at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, and two seniors, a sophomore and a freshman helped the Bobcats to a victory over Southern Wesleyan in the final regular season soccer game for 2021.

The North Carolina High School Athletics Association (NCHSAA) has released its playoff brackets for football.  All four Lincoln County teams, all the Cleveland County teams, four Catawba County teams, and six Gaston County teams will be playing next Friday in the first round.

The West Lincoln girls and Bandys boys won the Catawba Valley Conference Cross Country championships.  Now the league has announced its All-Conference selections.

The Lincolnton Wolves soccer team got their 16th win of the season Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over West Lincoln.    East Lincoln lost its Wednesday game to North Iredell, but North Lincoln won its match with West Iredell.  On Thursday, Lincoln Charter won a rain-soaked game with East Lincoln, 4-2.

East Lincoln and Lincoln Charter were eliminated from the NCHSAA Volleyball playoffs on Tuesday.  Maiden, Fred T. Foard, Crest, Kings Mtn. & Highland Tech won Tuesday. The Blue Devils, Crest and Highland Tech lost in the third round on Thursday.
