NCHSAA Recognizes 2019-2020 Wells Fargo State Cup Winners
The award recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications. The 2019-2020 season was cut short, due to COVID-19, and therefore, no spring sports points were awarded in this year’s competition.

South Fork Conference Administrator Butch Parker held a news briefing Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 15th) at Maiden High School and announced the conference's plans for the 2020-2021 school year athletics.  One part of the announcements was an agreement that will put many games on internet video.

State-mandated virus-related restrictions are scotching or severely altering many events this year. Among them is the fourth annual Kandace Helms Run. The event of five kilometers won’t be held on a single day at a given time and place instead it will be up to individual runners to run when they want at any time between Oct. 10 and 24.

College Football Season About To Begin
High school football won't be played in North Carolina until February, but the college football season gets underway this month--some places.  The Big 10, the Pac-12, and a few smaller conferences have decided not to play this Fall.  Fans won't be allowed at some games, including UNC's opener, but they will be allowed (with certain restrictions) at others.

Sage Surratt Won't Play This Fall
The next time you see former East Lincoln and Lincolnton High School standout Sage Surratt play football, it may be in an NFL uniform.  Surratt, who graduated from LHS in 2017, has decided not to play for Wake Forest this Fall.

Will high school and college athletes play during the 2020-2021 school year?  Some college conferences have cancelled or postponed Fall sports, and the NCHSAA decided last week to delay Fall programs until at the earliest mid-November--but even that may still be in question.

Renewed Restrictions Scrap "Amazing Race"
Gov. Roy Cooper’s renewed restrictions this week have thrown a spanner into Christian Ministry’s works. According to executive director Mitzi Williams, the local charitable organization has been forced to reschedule its annual fundraiser, the “Amazing Race Against Hunger,” to the spring.
