DENVER, N.C. – It was a big night at East Lincoln as the Mustangs hosted the North Lincoln Knights.

First it was “Braylon Beam Night” as the 6-year-old cancer patient was being honored as honorary ball boy and a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be held with his autographed trading cards. Next it was cancer awareness night as fans were asked to wear “gold” in honor of September being Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month or “purple” in honor of Relay for Life.

Also in the stadium Friday night was Tarheel Quarterback Coach Keith Heckendorf who had come to watch Chazz Surratt in action. Surratt will attend UNC to play both football and basketball.

  • Less than a minute later the Mustangs Chazz Surratt hit his brother Sage for a 65-yard touchdown pass and then a two-point conversion tied the game.
  • The Knights took the lead again as Cam Keller hit Stephen Jackson for a touchdown with a conversion failing, 14-8.
  • On their next possession the Mustangs Colton Banks ran 14-yards to tie the game. An extra point kick gave them the lead,15-14.
  • East Lincoln recovered a fumble and Surratt hit Cameron Dollar for a 46-yard score with an extra point, 22-14.
  • The Surratt brothers combined for another score from a 12-yard pass, 28-14.
  • Right before the half the Knight’s quarterback was sacked for a big loss setting up a Mustang score to make it 35-14 at halftime.
  • During the first half Chazz Surratt completed nine of his 10 passes for over 225 yards and four touchdowns.
  • After the half Chazz Surratt ran the second half kickoff back 60 yards to give East Lincoln a 42-14 lead.
  • Then on a 66-yard touchdown pass to brother Sage, his third for the night, and after an extra point kick the final score for the Mustangs was 49-14.

Chazz Surratt threw for a total of 347 yards and five touchdowns on the evening for East.

Donnie Thompson ended up rushing for over 100-yards on the night for North Lincoln.
