LINCOLNTON, N.C. – The second game of the football season saw North Lincoln visit West Lincoln Friday, August 26. It was West’s first game at home and the stadium was starting to fill up on both sides of the field. Schools don’t open until Monday, August 29 for the 2016-17 year but the fans were ready to cheer on the Rebels, the Knights, their cheerleaders and marching bands.

The Lincoln Herald had two photographers at the game (Kirk Herbertson and Janet Reep Morgan) with lots of pictures for both teams!

Be sure to read Janet Reep Morgan’s first installment of a multi-part series spotlighting West Lincoln parents who once marched, cheered or played football where they now watch their adolescent children carry on the same tradition in today’s Lincoln Herald (It will be in the Opinion/Columnist Section).

(Recap of the game from Friday night’s Football Scoreboard by Wayne Howard)

North Lincoln took the opening kickoff in their game at West Lincoln and scored on a 14-yard run by Ethan Hicks to take the early lead 6-0.  Brandon Schesny then rambled 56-yards for a Rebel TD and a Renteria EP made it 7-6.

Steven Jackson appeared to have scored another NL touchdown on a long run, but a holding penalty brought it back. Then Nathan Hull intercepted a North Lincoln pass to put West Lincoln inside the red zone after gaining a first down, their second of the night.  Brandon Schesny then ran 7-yards for a TD and the Renteria EP made it 14-6.

Schesny scored again in the second period on a 26-yard run and after the EP it was 21-6 West. Renteria then kicked a 35-yard field goal to make it 24-6.

Schesny wasn't through.  He ran for his fourth TD of the night and it was 31-6 at halftime. Schesny had run for over 160-yards.  West added another TD and a 2-point conversion to make it 39-6.

North Lincoln then scored a couple of TDs to make it 39-20 and that became the final score. Schesny finished the night with 233-yards rushing.  For North Lincoln, Steven Jackson had 156-yards rushing in the loss.
