There are three very important games involving Lincoln County teams this Friday.  West Lincoln will play at Lincolnton.  For a change, the Rebels are heavily favored, and having lost to North Lincoln two weeks ago, they need to win the rest of their games to take a South Fork 2A Conference championship. Lincolnton will try to turn things around playing its Homecoming game.  (The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for 4 PM through downtown Lincolnton.)

North Lincoln is one of two teams with unblemished conference records.  The Knights play at Maiden this week.  Preseason and even early into it, the Blue Devils were considered by many as likely conference champs.  They've suffered losses to Bandys and West Lincoln, but they're still a formidable opponent, and this is not only a home game for them--it's Homecoming.   The field is very, very wet--and there had been some thought to postponing the game, but there's not only the game but a Homecoming dance planned, and moving it to Monday creates a problem because it may also rain Monday night; so the decision was made to proceed with the game Friday night.

To beat the Blue Devils, North Lincoln will have to do what it has done best this season--control the ball and play great defense.  Landon Beard, the Knights QB, was named the First Federal Savings Bank Player of the Week for his performance against East Lincoln last Friday.  Beard completed only three of his five passes last Friday, but one of those was a 26-yarder to Seth Moody that set up a field goal by Ian Fiore, helping to halt a comeback by the Mustangs that had cut the lead from 21-0 down to 21-10 before that kick.  Beard doesn't throw a lot--only ten times total in the previous two games, but he manages the power attack well.  The Knights gang tackle and their defense coupled with their ball control offense has helped them to their current position in a tie for tops in the league.

Bandys is also undefeated in conference play; the Trojans only loss was to Hickory  (by a single point, 28-27).  East Lincoln, like West, has only one conference loss, and could still win the conference title--but they'll need to upset Bandys to keep that hope alive.  North Lincoln's strong defense held quarterback Chase Jones to a 5 for 19 passing performance last week, but that got the Mustangs 172 yards and one of those passes was to Tavin Johnson for a TD.  The big question this week is whether the Mustangs defense can stop Ethan Howard and the Bandys power attack.

Other games scheduled for Friday night include Cherryville hosting Union Academy from Monroe, and the Game of the Week in the Big South 3A Conference with undefeated Hunter Huss hosting the Crest Chargers, who also haven't lost in the conference.
