The South Fork 2A Conference Boys' Tennis Awards for 2019 have been announced. East Lincoln's team won the conference tournament played at North Lincoln High School Wednesday and Thursday (April 10th and 11th). The Mustangs had also claimed the regular season title. The All-Conference designees for 2019 are:

  • Graham Warlick from Bandys
  • Joel Reiter of East Lincoln
  • Nick Colannino of East Lincoln
  • Connor Hall of East Lincoln
  • Raghav Sriram of Lake Norman Charter
  • Kyle Fitzsimmons of Lake Norman Charter
  • Tre’ Thorne of Lake Norman Charter
  • Jake Dalton of Maiden
  • Brann Reid of Newton-Conover
  • Timmy Eustice of Newton-Conover
  • Collin Bonner of North Lincoln
  • Hunter Hoyle of West Lincoln

Brann Reid from Newton-Conover was named the Player of the Year and East Lincoln Coach Rollin Markel the Coach of the Year.

For anyone who missed it, Reid won the singles championship; East Lincoln's Joel Reiter finished second. Tre' Thorne and Kyle Fitzsimmons of Lake Norman Charter claimed the doubles title.

Lincoln Charter, having cruised through the season undefeated, won the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference Tournament. The Eagles, who have won the league tennis title each year since 2017, finished by taking both the singles and doubles championships.

Senior Parker Powell, unbeaten in 11 matches, claimed the singles title; while freshman Ben Shelton and Sophomore Mitchell Swicegood won the doubles title 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) over seniors Andrew Clark and Sean Kostuik of Cherryville.

The Eagles now enter post-season play May 1st either at Westport or Bradley Park. The individual regionals will begin May 3rd at Elkin and continue the following day, and the second round of dual team playoffs will be May 7th. Should they make it that far, the state championship match will be in Burlington, NC on May 18th.

Friday (April 12th) began as a very rainy day--but by late afternoon, it was sunny. Fields were still wet, so some games that were scheduled were postponed. West Lincoln did manage to play its baseball game against Newton-Conover, and the Rebels won by a 13-0 score. We did not receive scores from any other games including the East Lincoln @ North Lincoln baseball game or the Cherryville @ Lincoln Charter softball game. We also did not get a report on a score from the Lincoln Charter @ Pine Lake Prep girls soccer match, so we assume it was also not played.  Those events may be rescheduled for this week and added to the schedule posted here, but we did not have a rescheduled date when we posted this article.
