While their schools' baseball teams are playing at home in the state baseball playoffs, the golf teams from West Lincoln and East Lincoln are in Pinehurst.  The NCHSAA Golf 2AChampionships are being played on the Longleaf Golf Club course, which is actually in Southern Pines, which borders Pinehurst on its east side.

Lake Norman Charter, which won the South Fork Conference championship and then took the Midwest Regional title last Tuesday led the 2A team competition by 13 strokes over Midway after the first day's play on Monday (May 13th). In individual scores, Midway's Logan Patrick jumped out to a two-shot lead after day one over Lake Norman Charter's Ian Johnson. Patrick shot a one-under par 71, with four birdies on the day while overcoming back-to-back bogeys on the first and second holes. Meanwhile, Johnson's one-over 73 was helpful to his team's score, but all four scoring players for the Knights shot 80 or better in round one, with Carter Busse firing a five-over 77, and Jace Arko and Will Dalton each carding eight-over rounds of 80.

East Lincoln's Lance Rowe was tied for third place with a round of 75. Fred T. Foard's Max Cranford shot a 76. Bauer Galloway of West Lincoln had an 81 on the first day. West was in third place in team play with a 538, 28 strokes back of Lake Norman Charter. East Lincoln's team score on day one was 539, putting them in 4th place.

The competition continues on Tuesday in Pinehurst.
