LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The 2019 football season is bringing a lot of “new” to Von Ray Harris Stadium. The Wolves have a new coach, new uniforms, new schedules, a new look and a new attitude. The Wolves come into this new season with blank pages to write this chapter in their book. We all want to know how this chapter will end and what will come next. However, we will have to watch it be written one game at a time.
Brice and I had the honor of taking some pre-season pictures for the team and spoke with coaches and players. They truly have a new outlook for the season and everyone is excited. After last season I think everyone wondered what this year would bring. Well, we don’t know but what we do know is they are working hard to make this season better. In just the short amount of time we have been around the team and coaches we have seen renewed spirits. Coach Joe Glass is a “no-nonsense” type of Coach. He demands respect from his players and they gladly give it. I quickly noticed that when he spoke, they listened. They had a fun banter but when it was time to be serious the players knew it. They truly seemed to appreciate the structure Coach Glass has brought.
Along with the new structure has come new uniforms and even some pretty “smooth” blazers and bow ties. Coach Glass posted a photo on Facebook of the new Senior blazers and bow ties and followers responded with nothing but praise. One Facebook follower commented “thank you for character building and showing these kids how to show respect for themselves, the school they represent and the community.” Other comments included “those look sharp”, “very classy”, “nicely done, Coach” and “awesome”. Coach Glass also had posters made by Custom Cutouts that included the Senior football players along with the schedule. He has hosted a parent/team day and has a fundraiser planned for August 24 to help raise funds for the LHS weight room, which helps all LHS Athletes.
New can be scary because it has uncertainty however if we never try anything new we will never learn. This new year may be more about learning than anything else however with a new attitude it will be successful in more ways than one. Brice and I are excited to see all the new things unfold for the Wolves. Coach Glass and his staff, some old and some new, have already made a difference in these young men’s lives and will continue to do so as the season unfolds.
We would like to wish Coach Glass and the Wolves a successful and healthy year. We are excited to see what this year holds for all of you!
Coach Glass and the team are hosting a Fish Fry fundraiser on Saturday, August 24 at Family Tree Hand Wash at 806 E. Main Street Lincolnton. They will have car washes available for a $5 donation from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and the fish fry will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Please go by and support the team.
