CHERRYVILLE, N.C. - It is crazy to me that this week I am about to watch my last football game as a student at Cherryville High School. I have watched the boys on the team play since we were in elementary school and it is going to be weird not watching them play every Friday night.
This past Friday (Nov. 1), the Cherryville Ironmen had their Senior Night and it was a bittersweet moment. I have grown up with the senior football players, cheerleaders, and athletic trainers most of my life and it was really special seeing them all together at Rudisill Stadium for the last time.
Although the Cherryville Ironmen have not won many games this year, they put their best efforts into each game they play. There was excitement throughout the crowd on Friday when the Cherryville Ironmen were up by three before half-time as they played Pine Lake Prep. After half-time the Ironmen ended up winning the game 34-24. This was exactly what the boys needed to motivate them to play their final game versus our rival, Bessemer City, this week.
Cherryville Football with always hold a special place in my heart and I will always cheer these boys on wherever they may go in life. Until next time Rudisill.
Sincerely, a soon to be Cherryville High School Alumni.
MEET GRACIE RICKARD --- I am a senior at Cherryville High School this year and I am very active in our school’s student section, the Metalheads. I attempt to go to almost every game and I am excited to share the sports of Cherryville that normally do not get recognize and also some that do. I currently play varsity tennis, and track and field for Cherryville. I have been playing tennis since my junior year and track and field since my sophomore year. I also am involved in many of the clubs at Cherryville High School such as Journalism Club, Interact Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After high school, I plan to pursue a pathway to become a dental hygienist or something in the medical field. I love to help others and be involved in my community. Therefore, I think by pursuing a degree in the medical field I will be able to continue to do these things. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the events at Cherryville and GO IRONMEN!
