Cross Country Update
South Fork All-Conference Selections; State Championship meet Saturday

Wayne Howard
Staff Writer

Daniel Hopkins of Lincolnton and Angie Allen of North Lincoln have been named the South Fork Conference Cross Country Runners of the Year for 2019.

Hopkins took first in the South Fork 2A Championship meet last month and finished second behind North Lincoln's Jason Thomson at the NCHSAA Regionals last Saturday (Nov. 2nd) in Newton.

Allen finished first in the girls' competition at both meets improving by nine seconds last Saturday compared to the Oct. 22nd event.

While the North Lincoln team will be in the NCHSAA State Championship competition this Saturday at Kernersville, NC, Hopkins will be there as an individual participant.

Seven North Lincoln's boys will also be there for the team competition, having won both the conference and the regionals. East Lincoln will also compete for the boys state championship.

Thomson, who beat Hopkins at the West Regional by eight seconds, was also named to the All-Conference team announced Wednesday (Nov. 6th). North's Khari Johnson, Jacob Scott, Miles Phillips, Alex Wulfhurst, Jared Campbell, Noah Carter & Stephen Fernetti were also All-Conference selections. Also chosen for the honor was Noah Lesser of East Lincoln.

In addition to Allen, Alyssa Galvin, Andrea McAllister, Shelby Fink, Shay Rooney, Lori Glavan and Delanie Mellon of North Lincoln were named girls All-Conference choices. So were Marlene Delgado of East Lincoln and Alexa Bieberich of West Lincoln.

Jerry Castro of North Lincoln was named Coach of the Year for both boys & girls.

Seven boys and seven girls from North Lincoln will compete in the state 2A championship meet on Saturday. Marlene Delgado of East Lincoln will also run for individual honors.

Like North Lincoln in the 2A regionals, Lincoln Charter’s boys team placed five runners in the top 10 while the Lincoln Charter girls won their fourth consecutive west region championship.

Both Lincoln Charter boys & girls will try for a state 1A title on Saturday.
