LINCOLNTON––State-mandated virus-related restrictions are scotching or severely altering many events this year.
Among them is the fourth annual Kandace Helms Run. The event of five kilometers (a distance just more than three miles) won’t be held on a single day at a given time and place. According to event spokesman Danny Long, it will instead be up to individual runners to run when they want at any time between Oct. 10 and 24.
“We are excited to be back,” Long said this week. “Our first three races were great successes, and for that, we thank you.”
So how will it work? Long explained that runners may submit their times to Fitbit, RunKeeper, Strava and more to be added to the official participant results. Even a treadmill will do.
He added that the Helms Run is open to everyone from competitive runners to walkers, including seniors and children.
“It is always an amazing event full of love and encouragement,” he continued.
Long also noted that event shirts and participation medals are guaranteed with your registration through Oct. 1. The local packet pick-up will take place Oct. 10 in the parking lot of First Federal Savings Bank (the Boger City office). Awards will be given for the overall top three participants. Submitted times must be verified by race directors.
The Kandace Helms Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 that funds a scholarship program for Lincoln County graduates and other youth organizations. To learn more, see the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kandacehelmsfoundation.
