LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Although sports seasons are different this year, Lincoln County is still working hard to offer athletes the opportunity to participate in events.

Monday, October 26, the middle schools were able to start their very short Cross-Country season which has been condensed to one month. West Lincoln hosted East Lincoln (no results available) and Lincolnton hosted North Lincoln.

COVID shut down the schools in spring stripping students of their spring sports. COVID even limited events throughout the summer so these athletes were definitely excited to participate. It was pure joy to see these young athletes out there cheering for one another.

Many parents stated they were just thankful to be back at a school event. When speaking to many of the parents, they were just grateful their child was able to be a part of the program and that they were allowed to watch their child compete. Erin Rydell stated "I'm so thankful to be out here cheering for these kids. I've missed sports."

The North Lincoln girls team dominated the 2-mile course taking the top eight positions. Two girls from Lincolnton closed out the top ten (results at bottom).

For the boys competition, the Panthers did secure eight out of the top 10 positions but Lincolnton's Josh Olvera had a big finish completing the course ahead of his closest competitor by 34 seconds (results at the bottom).

Coach Miller of Lincolnton Middle School said he was proud of all the boys and girls for their hard work and effort.
