Junior Jeremiah Jones, made a free throw with 1.4 seconds left in the game to give the East Lincoln Mustangs a dramatic come from behind victory over the Lincolnton Wolves Saturday in a South Fork 2A Conference game played  in Lincolnton.  The final score was 55-54.

The Wolves led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, 24-21 at the half, 42-36 at the end of the third period, and by as many as 10 points late in the 4th quarter before the Mustangs made their comeback.

East Lincoln had two players in double figures. Junior  Evan Montanari had a career high 28 points including four three-pointers. Jeremiah Jones had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds; he also had 7 assists and four steals.  Junior Logan Craig had 8 rebounds and 8 points. Drew Bean had four points and Tyler Mizell two for East.

The Wolves had two players in double figures: seniors Connor Williams had 12 points and Gavin Queen, 10 points.

For Lincolnton, in addition to Williams and Queen, Tylan McClain had 9 points; Reed King had 9; Jacob McGill 6, Will Blackburn 4, DJ Danner 2, and Deandre Smith 2.

The Mustangs will play at North Lincoln Tuesday night, while the Wolves will host the Bandys Trojans.

The other games Saturday were make-goods from Friday's postponed schedule. The West Lincoln girls beat Maiden 43-42. The Maiden boys beat the West Lincoln boys 66-46.  West Lincoln will host Newton-Conover Tuesday.   

Due to the volleyball playoffs; Maiden's varsity girls played Lake Norman Charter's girls Monday (Jan. 11th).  The Blue Devils scored only a single basket in the first quarter and only eight points in the first half in a 45-36 loss  The Maiden boys teams will play beginning at 4:30 on Tuesday (Jan. 12th) with the JV boys game to be followed by the varsity boys.  

In the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference, Lincoln Charter plays at Cherryville on Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) releasedthe playoff brackets for the 2020-2021 Volleyball Championships Saturday. Play will begin Tuesday (Jan. 12th) with matches at the higher seed through the first four rounds. The second round is scheduled for Thursday (Jan. 14th), the third round for next Saturday (Jan. 16th), and the Regional Finals are scheduled to be held on Tuesday January 19th.

The State Championship Matches will be played on Saturday January 23rd at Green Level High School in Wake County. Due to the Governor’s Executive Order limiting the size of mass gatherings, spectator attendance is limited for all rounds. NFHS Network will carry all four championship matches this year. The Network will also have automated video streams of many early round contests from member schools equipped with the NFHS Network’s Pixellot system. Schedules can be reviewed at their website.

Tuesday's matches include:  East Lincoln, the #4 seed in the 2A tournament western division hosting the #13 seed Patton (from Morganton).  Maiden, the #14 seed, will play at West Wilkes, the #3 seed.  Fred T. Foard, the #8 seed, will host the #9 seed, Swannanoa Owen.  

Lincoln Charter, the #10 seed in the 1A western division, will play at Murphy, the #7 seed, on Tuesday.  Mtn. Island Charter, the #1 western division 1A seed, will host Mt. Airy, the #16 seed.
