Basketball/Volleyball Update

A strong second half performance helped the Lincolnton Wolves to down Bandys 59-40 Tuesday evening (Jan. 12th). Trailing by a bucket at the end of the first period, the Wolves outscored the Trojans in all three of the remaining quarters, taking a 26-23 halftime advantage and then pushing that to a 43-30 margin at the end of the third period. LHS has now won two of its three games. Lincolnton will play at West Lincoln Friday evening (Jan. 15th).

The Lincolnton girls team is currently under quarantine because of the virus.  Their game postponed from last Friday has been rescheduled for January 27th. They'll play Newton-Conover in a make-good game Wednesday.

Newton-Conover beat West Lincoln 59-20 in the girls game. The West Lincoln boys also lost, but this time it was closer.  The Rebels trailed by only a basket 40-38 at the end of the third period, but fell to the Red Devils 66-45.  Holiday Hopper had 20 points for West; Noah Huss had 10.

The East Lincoln at North Lincoln games were postponed until next Thursday (Jan. 21st).

Lake Norman Charter beat Maiden 59-54. The Knights led by a single point at the half, 31-20, but outscored the Blue Devils in both the final periods. For Maiden, it was the first loss after two wins to start the season. The Blue Devils are scheduled to play at North Lincoln Friday. The Maiden girls had played Monday evening.

Lincoln Charter's boys downed Cherryville Tuesday evening 92-35.  Troy Fulton scored 20 points, Sam Cogan 18, Carter Seitz 16 and Marcus Farley 13 in the win.  The Lincoln Charter boys will travel to Greensboro to play Northwest Guilford on Friday.

The state volleyball playoffs are underway.  The reason the East Lincoln basketball games were postponed was because the Mustangs volleyball team, which won the South Fork Conference championship, had a home match in the first round of the 2A playoffs.  Unfortunately, they lost to Patton High School in four sets.  East won the first set 25-22, but then lost 27-25, 30-28, and 25-17 to see their season come to a close.

The Maiden girls, who finished second in the South Fork, also ended their season with a 3-0 loss to West Wilkes (25-13, 25-7, 25-22).

Lincoln Charter's season also ended with a 3-0 loss to Murphy (25-20, 25-11, 25-15).

Mountain Island Charter advanced to the second round (they'll host Highland Tech from Gastonia on Thursday evening).  The Raptors won 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20) to remain unbeaten in 15 matches.  Senior Anaiah Jones had 22 kills in the match; Lauren Pledger added 13.  Highland Tech beat Community School of Davidson 3-0 to remain undefeated in 12 matches.

The Fred T. Foard volleyball team beat Charles Owen High School from Black Mtn. 3-0 in their first round match.  The Tigers have to go on the road Thursday evening.  They'll take on the #1 seed in the west, also unbeaten R-S Central at Rutherfordton.
