The North Lincoln Knights won their first ever conference basketball championship on Friday. On Sunday afternoon, when the playoff brackets were announced, they were the #3 seed in the west. They'll play their first round game at home Tuesday against Forbush, the #14 seed.
East Lincoln is in the state playoffs for the 17th consecutive season after finishing second in the South Fork Conference. The Mustangs will have to travel to Lexington to play North Davidson in the first round on Tuesday. The winner of that game will play the winner of the North Lincoln vs Forbush game on Friday.
Other teams from this area in the boys 2A playoffs include Shelby. The #10 seeded Golden Lions play at Patton on Tuesdsay.
In the 2A girls playoffs, despite their unbeaten record, the Newton-Conover Red Devils were seeded #9 in the west. That means they'll travel to Pisgah for a first-round game on Tuesday. East Lincoln's girls got the #11 seed and will play at #6 seed Shelby on Tuesday.
Other area teams in the girls playoffs include Bunker Hill, seeded #5 in the west.
In the 1A boys playoffs, the Lincoln Charter Eagles got the #5 seed in the west. They'll host #12 seed Murphy on Tuesday. Even with a win, they may have to play an away game in the second round on Friday.
The only other area team in the 1A boys playoffs is Mtn. Island Charter. Seeded #10, they plasy ast Chatham Christisan on Tuesday.
In the 1A girls playoffs, Lincoln Charter lost out on a playoff appearance by the luck of the draw. Bessemer City drew the #1 spot in the Southern Piedmont Conference after a loss by the Eagles on Friday produced a five-team tie and coaches drew for position on Saturday. Lincoln Charter ended up with the #5 spot in the league--and won't be in the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets got the league's top spot and was then seeded #2 in the west on Sunday. Bessemer City will host Bishop McGuiness in its first round playoff game Tuesday.
The only other area team in the 1A girls playoffs is Mtn. Island Charter. They're seeded #11 and will play at Mitchell on Tuesday.
