The South Fork Conference boys golf tournament was held Thursday at the Catawba Country Club. Lake Norman Charter was the winning team; East Lincoln finished second. Both of those teams qualified for the state tournament. While West Lincoln finished third, Lawson Harkey of the Rebels was an individual qualifier for the state tourney. Atley Gabriel of Bandys and Hatley Hicks and Holt Allison of Newton-Conover were also individual qualifiers.

Scores were pretty good--only six of the 36 participants failed to break 100. Carter Busse of Lake Norman Charter was the medalist with an even par 72. Lawson Harkey of West shot a 75. East Lincoln's Deacon Zilker had a 77 and Drew Coppin of the Mustangs had a 78.

Lake Norman Charter had a team score of 310, East Lincoln shot 323, West Lincoln 341.

The South Fork teams are 2-0 after the first week of baseball; and it could be three by late Friday night. Maiden is hosting Bandys in a 7 PM Friday game; they beat the Trojans 7-3 on Tuesday. Spencer Floyd went 2 for 3 at the plate on Tuesday, had a home run and drove in three runs. [UPDATE: Maiden won that Friday night game 5-4, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning; so the Blue Devils are also 2-0.]

North Lincoln opened the season with a pair of wins over West Lincoln, 16-3 on Tuesday and 7-0 Thursday. In that Thursday game, Seth Whitley pitched six innings and gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out 11.

East Lincoln opened with a pair of wins over Lake Norman Charter, 7-3 Tuesday and 13-6 Thursday. In Tuesday's game, Matt McCowan hit two home runs in three at-bats. Graham Smiley and Isaac Armstrong also homered. Joshua Stephens had a homer in Thursday's game.

Lincolnton is also 2-0 after taking a pair of games from Newton-Conover, 10-4 on Tuesday and 12-3 Thursday.

North will play at Lake Norman Charter on Tuesday (May 4th) and then host the team from Huntersville Friday night (May 7th, 7 PM).

Lincolnton will host East Lincoln Tuesday (7 PM) and then the Wolves will play the Mustangs at East Lincoln Friday (7 PM). West Lincoln will play at Maiden Tuesday evening (7 PM), then host the Blue Devils at 5 PM Friday. Bandys and Newton-Conover will play Teusday night at Bandys and Friday night at Newton.

Lincoln Charter open with a 15-2 win over Highland Tech last Tuesday.  They took a 20-0 shortened win (because of the lopsided score) at Piedmont Community Charter in Gastonia Friday afternoon. The Eagles will host Bessemer City Tuesday at 7 PM.

Cherryville won its first game over Ashbrook last Monday 11-9.  The Ironmen beat Christ the King Friday night 9-0.  Cherryville plays at Highland Tech Tuesday night.
