East Lincoln wrapped up the South Fork Conference championship Wednesday night, winning a game postponed from Tuesday because of rain by a 12-2 score in five innings at Newton-Conover.
Junior Preston Scotto had some control problems. He didn't give up any hits, but the starter for the East Lincoln Mustangs walked three batters in the bottom of the first inning Wednesday night and the Newton-Conover Red Devils tied the game with two runs. That's when freshman Carson Dahle got his chance. He finished the inning and then held the home team to just three hits while walking only one batter and striking out four, picking up his first victory on the mound. Jordan Fisher finished things up striking out two of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the fifth, and the Mustangs got to call it a night early with their twelfth victory against a single loss and the South Fork Conference championship. They have one regular season game left--at home against the Red Devils, and that has been moved up and will now be played Thursday night at 7.
Garrett Michel was named player of the game after batting 3 for 4 including a triple, driving in five of the Mustangs' dozen and scoring two. He was also in on a double play along with Logan Palmer and Gavin Houser. He stole two bases (the Mustangs had 8 stolen bases in all and not one of their attempts resulted in an out).r
Other East Lincoln hitters also had a good night: Graham Smiley went 2 for 3, scored two runs and batted in one; Gavin Houser was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Cade Doolittle also hit 2 for 3 and scored two runs and Logan Craig was 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored two runs.
The Mustangs and second place North Lincoln will be in the NCHSAA 2A playoffs next week; the schedules will be announced over the weekend.
