We warned when we posted this article that the schedule was subject to change.  We already knew Monday night that West Lincoln, originally scheduled to have a bye week, would play at Ashbrook this Friday.  The Rebels' game with Fred T. Foard last Friday was canceled because the Tigers were under COVID protocol.  The West JV team won't play this week.

Maiden High School's game at St. Stephens last Friday was also nixed by COVID.  The Blue Devils have now arranged a game for this Friday at Monroe.  The Maiden JVs will play at home Thursday evening against the Shelby JVs, we are told.

Shelby and Crest have rescheduled their Cleveland County rivalry game that was originally scheduled for  last Friday (Sept. 3rd). If all goes well, and with COVID causing many cancellations, one can't be sure, the two will meet October 8th at Shelby's Blanton stadium. The game had to be postponed from last week due to Crest having issues with COVID-19.

The Chargers were originally scheduled to have this week off, but arranged to move their Oct. 8th game at North Gaston up to this week (Friday Sept. 10th) since both schools had an open date this week. Shelby's schedule had Oct. 8th listed as an open date.

The North Iredell at Bunker Hill game that was postponed from last Friday because the Iredell County School had COVID cases has been rescheduled for this Friday.

Except for West Lincoln, Lincoln County teams will have this week off.

Newton-Conover, which lost its first game of the season at Polk County, then had games with West Iredell and Hickory called off because of COVID, first at the Iredell County school and then at Newton-Conover, has arranged a home game this Friday with South Caldwell.

Despite their 0-3 record, Lincolnton fans should be feeling a bit more optimistic about their team. They lost to East Lincoln Friday night--but the 14-8 score was much closer than many would have expected. East had won handily in road wins over Hibriten and Forestview, and this was their first home game.

Lincolnton actually got more yards rushing than the Mustangs--something they also accomplished in their 28-18 loss to North Lincoln the week before. In both games, the Wolves were still in it until well into the fourth period. North led 21-18 but scored another TD with seconds left to establish the final margin. East built up a 14-0 first quarter lead, but then the Wolves defense stepped up and played well.

East was, of course, hampered by the loss of two key players. Receiver Markell Clark went out early and quarterback Tyler Mizzell later had to head to the sideline holding his wrist.

The Wolves will have a tough opener for their Catawba Valley Conference schedule on Friday Sept. 17th. They'll host Bunker Hill. The Bears won their first two games this season easily. Their game from Friday was postponed one week. They lost their first game in the long-delayed shortened Spring season last school year, but they won all the rest of their regular season games.

The Mustangs also have this week off, a welcome opportunity for some healing of injuries. They'll open their Western Foothills 3A schedule at Hickory on Sept. 17th. The East @ Hickory game will be live streamed on the NFHS Network (https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/east-lincoln-high-school-denver-nc) It isn't free--but if you can't make it to Hickory for the game, you can subscribe and watch it online.

North Lincoln is also off this week. The Knights open conference play at Statesville on the 17th.  That game will also be live streamed on the NFHS network (https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/north-lincoln-high-school-lincolnton-nc/football).  You have to pay for a subscription to see it.

Other games scheduled this week--at least so far--include:
Cherryville @ Chase
Burns @ Watauga
Hibriten @ Shelby
Cherokee @ East Gaston
Christ the King @ Bessemer City
