Not sure which makes it most difficult to keep up with sports this year--the weather or COVID. Multiple football games have been canceled, postponed, or rescheduled because of COVID. With a 60% chance of thunderstorms this Wednesday (Sept. 8th), the scheduled soccer games may or may not be played.
As this reporter was about to finish his article of scores and schedule this Wednesday morning, lightning knocked out the power--and about two-and-a-half hours work...I hope we got everything included in a second effort.
Lincoln Charter beat Langtree Academy 3-0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-8) Tuesday in their first Catawba Shores 1A/2A Conference match of the season. Maddi Carter led the team with 9 kills. Freshmen Molly Smith and Gwyn Neels followed with 7 kills and 6 aces each. The Eagles will travel to Boone to play Watauga Wednesday (Sept. 8th). Both the JV (4:30) and varsity (6 PM) games will be live streamed on the NFHS Network (a pay to view service) [https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/lincoln-charter-high-school-denver-nc]
On Friday, they'll play at Christ the King Catholic School in Huntersville.
Our thanks to Lincoln Charter's new Athletic Director, Kim Lusk, for the report. Lusk relocated from New York with her husband, Jim, and four children. Lusk was a four-year point guard playing basketball in college. She previously served as Assistant Athletic Director, head women’s basketball coach and Sports Information Director at St. Thomas Aquinas College. She holds an MBA with a concentration in Sports Management.
All three of the other Lincoln County teams who played Tuesday lost. East Lincoln's match at West Iredell was postponed (no make-good date set) because that Iredell County school is on COVID protocol. West Lincoln lost to Bunker Hill 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 24-22). North Lincoln lost straight sets to 7-0 North Iredell. Lincolnton lost to Bandys 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-19).
West Lincoln is scheduled to play Hibriten Wednesday. North Lincoln will host Hickory on Thursday. Lincolnton will play at West Caldwell Thursday, and East Lincoln is scheduled to host Fred T. Foard.
Foard beat Statesville 3-0 and Hickory topped St. Stephens 3-0 Tuesday.
Maiden beat West Caldwell in straight sets Tuesday. The Blue Devils will host Bandys Thursday.
Cherryville is scheduled to play at Hunter Huss Wednesday and host Highland Tech on Thursday.
Junior Braydon Johnson scored two first half goals as North Gaston beat North Lincoln Tuesday. The Knights, now 4-2, are scheduled to play at South Iredell (weather permitting--there's a 60% chance of thunderstorms) Wednesday (Sept. 8th). That match will be live streamed on the NFHS Network (you must buy a subscription to view) [https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/north-lincoln-high-school-lincolnton-nc]. The Knights start their Western Foothills 3A Conference schedule on Monday when they host East Lincoln.
Weather permitting (again, there's a 60% chance of thunderstorms) Lincolnton is scheduled to play Forestview Wednesday (6 PM). The Jaguars tied the Wolves 1-1 a week ago. That tie knocked LHS from its #1 NC 2A ranking to #4. The Wolves didn't look like themselves for most of that game, but recovered in the second half to tie the score. We were told that the rematch with the Jaguars will be played (if weather permits) at LHS because of field conditions at Forestview.
West Lincoln will visit Lincoln Charter Friday. The Eagles (3-1-1) are scheduled to play Forest Hills at Marshville Thursday. West will begin Catawba Valley 2A Conference play hosting Bandys on Monday (Sept. 13th).
Bandys beat Cherryville 6-0 Tuesday. The Trojans are scheduled to play at Hickory's Challenger Early College High School Wednesday. Cherryville will play at Highland Tech Thursday.
Hickory (5-0), the state's #1 ranked 3A team, is scheduled to host South Caldwell Wednesday. The Red Tornadoes will play at Hibriten Thursday.
