East Lincoln needed overtime to beat North Lincoln 3-2 Wednesday, but the Mustangs were glad to get a win after two ties and two losses in their last four games. On Monday, they lost in OT to North Iredell 5-3, then tied Lincolnton 1-1 on Tuesday, and beat the Knights on Thursday. Four of their their last five matches have been decided in overtime.
Fred T. Foard still leads the Western Foothills 3A Conference with a 6-0 conference mark, 8-2 overall. Hickory is in second place at 5-1-1 (11-2-1 overall). East is now in 4th place at 5-2-1 (7-5-2 overall). North Lincoln is now 2-6, 6-9 overall.
The tie on Tuesday dropped Lincolnton from its #1 ranking among 2A western region teams. The Wolves, now 9-0-2, are ranked #2 behind Hendersonville 12-1-1. Shelby (12-1-1) is ranked #3. Lincolnton still leads the Catawba Valley 2A Conference with a 7-0 conference record. Newton-Conover (7-1, 8-6-1) is in second place.
In other matches Wednesday, Hickory downed Statesville 6-0, Bandys topped West Lincoln 6-1, Maiden beat East Burke in double overtime 2-1, Newton-Conover downed West Caldwell 7-2, and Lincoln Charter lost to Langtree Academy 7-1. On Tuesday, Cherryville beat Highland Tech 3-2, and on Thursday Bandys topped Cherryville 4-1.
