Post 100 Season Ends

Wayne Howard
Reporter

They did all they could; they won their Thurday game over Randolph County Post 45 by a 7-3 score; but for Cherryville Post 100 to make it to the semi-finals on Friday in the state tournament at Campbell University, they needed Hope Mills Post 32 to beat Fuquay-Varina Thursday night--and that didn't happen.  Fuquay-Varina, the defending state champions, won that game 12-4.

For details of Thursday's win by Cherryville, see our Thursday evening article.

The teat Post 100 beat for the Area IV championship last week will be in the semi-finals.  The Queen City Mustangs won their Thursdaa game with Rowan County to improve to 2-1 in pool play.  Post 100 also ended pool play 2-1 as did Randolph County, Wilmington, and Fuquay-Varina. but because they gave up a total of 17 runs in three days, Post 100 didn't make it to the semfinals.

Queen City will play Randolph County Friday at 4:30; Fuquay-Varina and Wilmington will play at 7:30.  The winners will advance to the state championship game Saturday afternoon.

Win or lose, Randolph County is assured a spot in the Southeast Regionals next week--they're the host team.

Next up in our area is the American Legion World Series in Shelby beginning August 11th.
