FOOTBALL
Football season is still happening for a handful of area teams. East Lincoln travels to Kings Mountain this Friday night (Nov. 25th) in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 3A playoffs. Both teams are undefeated, although the Mountaineers had a close call last Friday, pulling out a win over West Charlotte on a winning TD with just 10.9 seconds left in the game. The Mustangs, on the other hand, have not had any opponent come closer than a 16-point loss, and have beaten all but one of their opponents by at least three touchdowns. Burns only loss was to Kings Mtn. but the Bulldogs play a round four game at home against Monroe this Friday. Maiden also has just one loss on its record. The Blue Devils travel to Reidsville this Friday night in the 2A playoffs. South Point (Belmont) will host Eastern Guilford in the 3A playoffs.

RADIO and ONLINE for ROUND FOUR:

WNNC (1230AM, 101.3FM) will have the Maiden game; also online at https://wnncradio.com/football/.

WLON (1050AM, 107.5FM) will have the East Lincoln game; also on Tune-In.

WCSL (1590AM, 92.9FM) will have the East Lincoln at Kings Mtn. game and it will also be online at http://www.ktcbroadcasting.com/.

WOHS (1390AM, 101.5FM) will have the Burns game; also on http://www.ktcbroadcasting.com/.  There will also be live video of that game on YouTube (ktcbroadcasting.com/east lincoln @ kings mtn.).

BASKETBALL

Basketball season for most area schools begins this week. As we did with soccer, volleyball, girls tennis, and girls golf, we'll limit our efforts to covering the Lincoln County schools, Maiden, Cherryville, Fred T. Foard and Bandys.

Basketball starts for several schools this Tuesday night (Nov. 22nd).
Tuesday games:
South Point at Lincolnton, girls @ 6:30, boys about 8 PM
East Lincoln at West Lincoln, girls @ 6:30, boys about 8 PM
Bandys at Fred T. Foard, girls game @ 6 PM, boys follow
Lincoln Charter at Gaston Christian, boys game @ 6 PM

Cherryville opened at Stuart Cramer Monday night. The Ironmen lost that game 80-55, the CHS girls lost 69-36.
Foard lost to Newton-Conover Friday night: the boys, 74-55; girls, 53-40. Bandys beat Thomas Jefferson 48-39 in the boys game Friday; the Trojans girls won 39-31.

While others have played scrimmages, Lincoln Charter began its season Nov. 2nd. The Eagles lost five games (against some very tough opponents) before finally winning one last Thursday (Nov. 17th). The boys' scores: Nov. 2, lost 69-65 to Combine Academy; Nov. 8, lost 97-54 to Concord Academy; Nov. 10, lost 119-74 to l of l Academy; Nov. 11, lost 79-47 at Gaston Day; Nov. 15, lost 102075 to Cannon; Nov. 17, won 99-62 over Piedmont Community Charter. The girls' scores: Nov. 8, won 51-47 over Concord Academy; Nov. 10, lost 69-43 to 1 of 1 Academy; Nov. 15, lost 68-47 at Cannon; Nov. 17, won 63-29 over Piedmont Community Charter.

SOCCER

Soccer season ended last week.  The Lincoln Charter team got eliminated on a wet Tuesday a week ago at Black Mountain, but they made it further than any other area team in the playoffs. The team that beat them, Owen High School, went on to win the state championship later in the week. With that 5-4 loss (decided on penalty kicks in the third overtime), they finished with a 13-10-3 record playing in one of the toughest soccer conferences in the state. The Catawba Shores 1A/2A Conference champion, Christ the King from Huntersville, won the state 1A title. Way to go, Coach Soto & Lincoln Charter! Antoni Ceciliano led the Eagles in scoring with 30 goals and seven assists; Ethan Walker had 13 goals and five assists; Zach Salgado had 12 goals and 8 assists. In the final game (that 3OT loss to the eventual state champs) last Tuesday, Salgado had two goals, Ceciliano and Carson Montgomery, one each; Joseph Echeverria had two assists.  Our thanks to Coach Luis Soto for his report.
